Default Dumb Question number 976!

The front Spoiler/Air Dam, what is its exact purpose? Is it just for looks? If it's removed, will it effect high speed performance?

Told ya.. Dumb question!!

I'm working on Dumb question number 977!!

If you are referring to the three black rubber pieces between the front wheels and the nose, the middle one directs air into the radiator and I believe the side pieces help reduce lift and drag.

It is meant to direct airflow into the cooling system and air intake for the engine......don't recommend removing it.

It's there to deflect air from going underneath your car. Very important during high speeds. Ever seen a NASCAR or F1 race where the car's front end tips up and flies off the track? Same thing can happen to you on the highway. The front piece is flexable so you won't break it off on a driveway. DO NOT remove it.

It's main job, besides directing air, is to clean the top of parking curbs and speed bumps!

The sides come off when you install a ACI chin spoiler.... Both our cars had to have the side removed for the front spoiler's....

The center air dam is there to shape the airflow under the car but it also directs air into the radiator and is essential. Your temps will go through the roof without it. You can see how the flow is shaped up into the intake from this (terrible) pic.

The side sections are to smoothe the airflow (aerodynamics). Without them you have a flat plate in the airflow which causes form drag. You'll get turbulent air at the tips and it will ruin the flow under the body of the car. That will affect ride and handling. I'd say you'd be OK below 70 but at speeds above that the car would become unstable

I posted this diagram a while ago to try to explain it.
