Hey everybody, the other day my 2000 FRC started acting really weird! I was rolling down the highway when she started to kind of chug a bit. When I pulled off and came to a stop it was like the engine was all out of whack. It was running like crap and seemed all unbalanced, not to mention a kind of ticking noise coming from the top, drivers side of the engine. She didnt kick any codes so I am wondering what this could be. I want to get her fixed but dont want to go chasing ghosts changing things that are fine trying to locate the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
I did have the car go into "limp home" mode once. Very dramatic. Lost everything and it just coasted to a stop. No rough running in my case though. Restarted the engine and all was fine and it never reocurred.

I hate to sound overly simplistic here, but it sounds a little like water in the gas. Mine acted sorta like that once last fall. I put some HEET in the tank and it cleared up.
Could be almost anything. Not having a MIL lit is a plus. You will need to use a scan tool in order to retrieve some data. Anything else at this point in time with the lack of solid data is purely a guess. Keep us informed as you find a fix. Good Luck and remember to always "Drive Safely Fast".
Yeah, maybe valve train or crud in the fuel. Not sure if the timing chain skipping a cog would let it still run but that's another possibility if yours is a high miler.
Sounds like you need to hook up to diagnostics first. codes or no codes. Not sure how or if the timing can get off with all the electronics. Seems that would trigger a code fo sho.
I'm new to these engines but if possible, see if your timing mark lines up when #1 is TDC compression stroke. Also a compression test might reveal something before you start tearing it apart.
Could be something as simple as a plug wire coming off as well. Check the easy stuff first and go from there. The ticking noise sounds like it's got a spark jumping somewhere to me. Good luck.
Hmmmm, you say it ran good, you stomped on it and ran good -- then ran funny, threw no codes. Agree it could be a valvetrain issue, water in gas, a clogged fuel filter -- or anything in between. Bummer! Happy hunting!!
Hey everyone!
Hope you all had a great Christmas! Anyways I finally got a chance to work on my baby! Did a comp. check on her and she was running at about 105 to 110 all the way around until I got to #2. Which registered nothing! Tore into her and found a broken valve spring on piston two exhaust side. My question is, is it possible to purchase just one spring? Or is it a better idea to change them all at once?
Ya me too! Sucks having a vette that just sits in the driveway! I found a set of Comp cams beehive springs that are for lightly modded cars with lift up to.625 think these sound about right? My car has an aftermarket cam but unfortunantly it was installed before I bought so no idea whats in there.
