Wheel question
I was considering the purchase of some reproduction Motorsport wheels by O.E. Concepts. I just found out they are manufactured in China, do I understand correctly it’s best to steer clear from this type of wheel?
The most common complaint about off shore manufactured wheels is the excess weight over oem wheels (hopefully not from lead ).
I wouldn't think that you'd really want to add more weight where it might effect brakes, handling, ride quality, etc.
HOUSE OF WHEELS is still selling GM oem polished Z16 wheels in 17/18" for only $225 each plus shipping from FL.
I have heard that most wheels shipped from Calif are Chinese and that they are not the quality that many like. In my opinion, they are cast and not forged, which creates a weaker wheel.

It was just as much a matter of convenience than anything and it would bring my silver and black scheme to a close. I understand there are many US made products and would rather trade with them but frankly most aftermarket wheels look like add-ons to me, I prefer the “factory” look.
I hoped to buy tires mounted and balanced from one source so I could install them on my car whenever I got around to it. Otherwise I have to cart 4 tires in my truck 15 miles to the local trusted installer then come back with the Vette. If I have to worry about inferior quality wheels and the problems they can bring maybe I’ll just head to my neighborhood Goodyear and have 4 Eagle F1 GS-D3 installed and forget about the Vredestein’s.
I've always liked the look of the black motorsports. I just purchased a set three days ago from TomzWheels for $399 shipped to my front door. You can't find anything else for that price for a set of four. They have a 1 year warranty on the finish and a lifetime warranty on the structure. I've never heard anything bad about them except that they weigh more than the oem wheels. The only oem wheels that were forged were the alcoas on the 2001. The '02-'04 Speedlines are spun-cast. I plan on keeping and refinishing my slightly rashed alcoas for racing, and running the motorsports around town for show. By the way, I also ordered some F1 GSD3's. I'll let you know how I like them.
You have to be careful. You may think your getting a bargain but some of those wheels are very heavy and will add noticable unsprung weight to your Z. It wont feel as nimble.
you cant go wrong with a CCW wheel package, i had mine waiting for me when i got back off deployment last year ready to bolt on...i did have house of wheels machined faced z06 rims and was able to notice the different in weight while driving

Thanks much for the input Gents, I guess I’ll stick with the stockers and concentrate on the critical tire choice! No surprise, you get what you pay for and I don’t care to degrade handling with heavier wheels.
I’m sure CCW and Fikse are superb quality but If I drop 4K into this car it will go under the hood, not on the corners. Thank you, stay tune for a “what tire works best” pole/thread!
When I get them in I'll weigh them. I'll also get some installed pics and let you know how I like 'em. I guess that it just depends on what you're looking for in wheels. For me, the forged alcoas are perfect for racing. I just wanted an extra set of wheels that look good to ride around town on. Now I can get the alcoas refinished and get some R compund rubber on them for racing/auto-x.

That's exactly what I'm saying! I can think of a lot better things to spend 4K on!
HI There,
All repo. wheels are made in china. Too expensive to manufacture in the in the usa. Compare the big price diff. between factory gm wheels verses repo wheels.Need I say more? I haven't heard of many complaints with the repo.wheels.

Reason: additional info.
There are more "repo" wheels around that wont balance, then ppl wont admit too. But these repos just dont balance well.
Each pound taken off each wheel is about the same as taking off 6 pounds out of the car.
Some of those REPO rims are 29-30 pounds each. Stock rims 21-23 lbs each. CCWs 17-18 for the Classics and 21-23 for Corsairs.
so 29 pound per repo and 23 pounds per CCW Corsair, that is 6 pounds per wheel difference or 24 pounds total of rotating wt or unsprong wt. That is approximately 145 pounds out of the car.
For $4,000 for a set of 18" all around CCWs Corsairs is one of the best mods or spend money to get the car faster.
Plus the look is just
No I dont work for CCW, but I do have three sets of CCW Classics
