I made some more head way on the clean up. I got the computer case sandblasted, came out okay, really thought some of the darker spots would have gone away. I applied some clear coat to prevent standard oxidation. I got the frame rail sanded and primed. Will try to get the black on and get it back together.
The history shows replacement twice and I am guessing at least one of those was due to leaking.
I purchased the car this way, shame on me but I have seen alot worse, the current battery is not leaking. Just decided to tear into it and get it fixed.

i probably need similar work done.. ive seen horror stories with the leakin battery and when i first had a/c issues i saw the battery acid damage while trying to diagnose the vacuum line problems.. i cringe thinking of the possible damage already done
The Optima is an AGM battery. They don't like being discharged so there are quite a few failures on our cars. But one things for sure, they can't leak.
The older AC Delcos are well known for this problem. Anyone who has one older than 03 should really think about a new battery before they have similar problems. I've had a leaker so I'm very wary.
