OK, just supposin I get a flat with my non rf's. Does anyone know how much clearance there is for inserting a jack? My car is at the stock ride height. I think I read that a BMW 3 Series scissor jack is very low profile. Are there any others? I am sure that I could buy a new wheel and tire for what BMW will want for one.
I am planning a trip to the west coast next summer and need this extra insurance. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
but I might be calling you lazy. Wouldn't it be the normal jack height less the distance from your rim to the ground when inflated?
Thanks for the constructive criticism. Of course I looked at that. But since the jack point isn't directly under the tire, the distance will be your measurement plus the hypotinuse of a quadralateral triangle +/- 1 inch.
Most of the scissor jacks I have seen are 3" or more. I am guessing the jack would have to be less than 3". Maybe 2.5 would make it. Is there anyone who has a suggestion on an appropriate jack?
Also, I wasn't asking about the advantages or disadvantages of non rf's vs rf's. I made my decision on that for my own reasons and I wouldn't swich back. However, I am not looking to debate this, just looking for some real constructive input.

I have NRF tires and a Sears Low Profile 3 1/3 in Jack. 2.5 ton, it's heavy and well built.Under $50.00
I also carry a small 12v compressor and some tire plugs in the Vette as unlikely you would ever get a blowout. Usually the tires will just pick up a nail causing a slow leak, leave nail in tire if possible, Pump up and drive to get it repaired.

Reason: Price-word
I picked up a small scissors jack at the local junkyard. Looks like it has a Ford part number on it. I think it is about2 3/4 inches tall when flattened. Has a built in handle and cost $6 and definitely fits under the car that has a flat tire.
I have had to fix a flat in a parking lot... no fun without a jack.

I switched to Dunlop SP 9000 Sports months ago...since then I had a screw in one of my rear tires...
Thats why I carry a plug kit , air compressor and for extreme cases, a can of fix a flat...no problem at all.

Don't be scared off by the price of a BMW jack. I found a bunch on Ebay and purchased one for $48 including shipping(brand new). It is a neat working jack. Get the other essentials and you're good to go!!!
Don't forget: When jacking the car, you should use your 'hockey puck' to keep from cracking your vette! Now, how much clearance is there with the hockey puck in place??

Here is what I carry with me, A GM ZO6 tire kit with a pump, tire goop, a pack of plugs and a floor jack, I also carry my AAA card, Have never needed it yet, But when the time comes I think I am ready.
Just a quick note for those depending on AAA. They will not fix the tire. Make sure you tell them you need a flatbed and you need it taken to get a flat tire fixed. My road service clearly states they will install a spare tire, or tow the vehicle
Here are a couple of pics of my jack I bought for $6. It is filthy so look past that
Here is a pic of the jack under the car. There is at least 4 inches between the rocker arm and the top of the jack. It will fit under the car even if both tires are flat.

What kind of jack is this? Is it a BMW jack? Thanks

I've considered going with non-runflats when I buy next time. I've considered going with the compressor kit that comes with the Z06. I haven't looked around for one, but think this would be a possible answer for the question you pose. I have heard good things about non-runflats not to mention the savings $$$$$.

OMG you're not putting that ugly thing under your Vette are you? it needs to be powder coated to match the car. jk
I am lazy, that's why I went back to EMTs. the ride is a little stiffer with the rf's but with Z51 it's stiff anyway. the way I drive a super sticky tire isn't needed anyway. taking my wife on a 3 week trip to New Mexico and Colorado we needed all the storage area the coupe could offer. a spare and jack would be out of the question.

Could be, I thought it had a Ford part number on it, but it seems to have a generic number with a "Made In Canada" on the sticker. The local Pick-N-Pull junkyard has a bin full of then for $6. I liked this one because of the wide top. I have another just like it without the wider top.
I seem to make weekly trips to the local yard looking for BMW parts, restoring an 84 633, and spotted this one while I was standing in line.
