High speed question...
Most of the street driven Vettes are in the 130-150 classes. This gives a top speed of 168mph. Now on this forum that does not sound that impressive with all the people talking about being in the 170-180's. But they are not running that for miles at a time. They go up and touch those speeds then slow down with out making high speed turns. Running those speeds for distance is a whole new experience. There is a real thrill for going through a turn marked 50mph at 150 or more.
Now my red ZO6(you can see in my sig) is still going to be street legal, I will drive it to and from the races. The only way it will LOOK different at first glance is the roll cage. If you look closely you will notice the race seats/harnesses/fire suppression system. At races the parachute will be the most obvious clue something is not right with this rig. Anyway if it will handle well and I have the ***** to pin the throttle long enough it SHOULD be good to 215-220mph. But until I have done I won't do any bragging. Of course as they say "if you can do it, it's not bragging anymore."

By all means come out and watch we need course workers. MKM treat their course workers fairly well. You get $40, free shirts, admission to all events including the awards banquet which the racers pay $35 to attend.
We also have a large group that come to all the races from Colorado, just jump on the site a couple of weeks before the race and you can probably catch a ride with someone if you don't want to make the drive.

Thanks for the info... I've heard that the GM engineers say that you can run a stock Vette for 30 minutes all out without damage, but for open road, I'm thinking it would be very hard on the car unlike low and high speed autocross. It's gotta be a thrill, though. For now, I'll stick to lower speed events, but I'd like to see the open road racing just to see if it's something I'd like to work towards doing someday.
I was going to suggest this, but they beat me too it I'll be there, as long as I get my Vette back together! Pueblo is a decent track, LOTs of fun. It will cure your need for speed, at least for a little while

The guys with NASA Rocky Mountian are a great bunch of guys and can teach you a lot. And, they always have a great time. Can't say enough good things about the club!
In June we are going to Milller in SLC for three days. That track will blow your mind, its fast and a lot of turns. Can't wait myself!

On the days that say "Track available for individual rentals," does that mean that you can go pay for the time and run the track on those days? I assume you'll (not you specifically) be out there with other cars running at your pace while letting faster cars by - correct? Do they do any instruction there? I know I should call them with these questions, but since you're familiar and they are closed today... Obviously, I'm fairly new to this and only have a few AXs under my belt, so I'd like to get some instruction without having to go to Vegas or another of the distant schools - I want to do that as well, but can't for a while. Any info you have will be greatly appreciated...

I've searched for an answer to this and can't find anything, so...
I'm talking C5s here. Suppose you're doing a high speed run and you have a blowout or hit an animal or somehow get turned around. Does anyone know at what speed the car would fly going backwards? They have nice downforce going forwards, but I'm thinking that if you got turned around at some speed, the rear end would lift off...
Just curious... thinking about trying open road racing and am wondering what "could" happen...
EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST: I'm talking LEGAL high speeds at 150+... like you may see here:

So the race course is only "closed" to everyday travel... obviously it runs through land that is populated by wild animals.

I run both the MKM events (June and August) they are woring on another event to be announced soon, probably in July. I use to run the Silver State events, but they have have decided that you are not allowed to run parachutes anymore. Since my chute has saved my life 2-3 times I won't run without it. So even after presenting my case to the board of Silver state and not getting a response, they stand by their rule. So I won't be running with them in the near future. They have the fastest course, but it also is the roughest of the Nevada courses, with 20 mile section of pretty serious frost heaves.
I am going to Texas to run in April.
