No governor at all. In fact, with the right mods, you can exceed the top speed of the C5 which is 176 mph.

There is no governor on the C5. The top speed for the C6 is around 186, but for the C5 coupe and vert is was around 175.

I agree with all of the above! You can go as fast as there is open highway! (Oops, I mean open track)

Can the stock C5 really handle those speeds without causing motor damage or the car risk of flipping? I had mine at 154(track speed of course) and felt some float.

175MPH+ ?
I'm afraid I'd run out of courage long before the car would run out of power!!!
However, there are some on this Forum who have brass ones and have exceeded 180!

I heard once you hit around Mach 2 the car starts to shut down. Afterburners or something...

I know I have come damn close to 200mph. I ran out 5th gear to 6800rpm and the car felt glued still.

Check your cars rake. Too little rake and car feels floaty at high speeds. Also check your alignment. Too much front toe will do this. At those speeds use a ZERO front toe

Not sure where you came up with that number, it's factory set at 255mph, but it is an adjustable parameter.
255 just happens to be the hard limit of the PCM...you can't set it higher than that.
