Discolored side mirror

It's maybe not as pretty as a replacement glass but its cheaper than $400+ for a replacement mirror. If you have the electro-chromatic glass, you'd lose that function.
Worth a try for $5 before you spend the big $$

Mirror glass Right 97-04 $69.33 $52.77
Mirror W/memory Right 97-02 $263.35 $200.44
The right and left mirrors are different part numbers.
There’s a procedure in the Shop manual to replace just the mirror glass. It looks reasonably straight forward:
Removal:
Push in on one edge of the mirror glass lifting the mirror case to allow finger access
Grasp the glass case firmly and pull the case from the mirror body
Disconnect the wire connectors from the case (heated mirror)
Remove the two jackscrews from the mirror glass case
- Bend the jackscrew over
- Press down on the side of the jackscrew popping the jackscrew from the mirror glass case
- Save the jackscrews for reinstallation to the mirror motor
Reinstallation:
The jackscrew springs must be positioned down compressing the fingers at the bottom of the jackscrews
Push to install the jackscrews in the mirror motor.
Rotate both jackscrews to position the ball flanges to be inline with the attaching hub. they will then be correctly positioned to the mirror glass case.
Connect the electrical connections to the mirror glass case (heated mirror)
Align the case to the mirror motor
With the palm of your gloved hand press firmly on the center of the mirror glass case until the case engages onto the motor
push the mirror glass to the jackscrews
- Right mirror. Rotate the mirror glass down and press firmly on the lower side engaging the mirror glass case to the lower jackscrew
- Left Mirror. Rotate the mirror glass up and press firmly on the upper side engaging the mirror glass case to the upper jackscrew
- Rotate the mirror glass case and press firmly on the outer side engaging the mirror glass case to the outer jackscrew. The jackscrews will give a clicking noise when properly seated.
Its easier with the diagrams but hope that helps

Does anyone in this thread have two extra jackscrews from a broken / replaced mirror?
Thanks!!!

but for $5 you'd not be throwing much away to find out.
