I've got a Kenwood 7100 with Garmin NAV in my C5. We bought my directionally challenged daughter a Garmin 650 at Costco for a very good price this Xmas. Great units both.

I got my wife a double din eclipse unit with NAV for her vehicle, I still have to program it for her to find anything though
Ive been using a Garmin 350 and like it. I thought about the phone route but I wanted a more tangible unit that I could leave with the vehicle. I also didn't want to stick another $120 per year into my current phone plan.
Go out and look at the individual units and check out the references used in some on line services. We looked at Garmin, Magellan, and Tom Tom and finally settled on Magellan because of the features it had that Garmin didn't. You can hardly go wrong with any of the new units.
One thing you want to be sure of is to be able to get updates over the internet.
While on vacation in Florida, we bought the Garmin 200 wide screen for under $200. That by far is the best purchase for the money we've made in a long time.

This is the best, and least expensive, GPS we've owned to date and I've had a few.
After reading this thread, I went and got the Garmin Nuvi200W. It was on sale at Circuit City for 249.99! My buddy got his last summer for $450. Widescreen, touch screen, etc.... I think i will be ready for our club's first of the year this saturday.
I have the Garmin Zumo. It's my 4th Garmin and the best yet. It is intended as a motorcycle unit, so some of the functionality is geared to that (waterproof, buttons on left side), but makes a great car unit as well. It has all the bells and whistles plus you can program your route on your computer and send it to the GPS. this is a great advantage if you are planning a vacation and do not want to follow the route the GPS selects. I use this feature all the time.
As far as I know, the Zumo and the Street Pilot series are the only units that give you this feature. Another Forum member said that the new Nuvi 7xx series could do this as well. Not so. They allow extra way points that give you the ability to customize your route somewhat, but not to the extent of the computer interface.
The Zumo is expensive , so it depends on your budget and needs.
i got the magellan roadmate 800 a couple of years ago and have had no issues with it.....the only problem is that it has taken magellan almost 2 years to come out with a map upgrade.....and even then it says the data is "3rd quarter 2006" which is still not very current.....for that reason alone, if i were going to buy a new GPS today, i would buy a garmin......i have read that their updates are more frequent and more current.......
Hang around at this incredible GPS site and forum before you make your decision. Decide on the features you want and you can compare all units with those features side by side. System Op Tim is a mine of information.
I decided I need to plot my own routes across country for cruising drives. The great free program Tyre alows you to plot routes in Google Maps and then upload them to a TomTom. That's what I'll be getting - a TomTom XL-S.
I have the c330 which was replaced by the c340 and it is nice and simple to use and also has an internal battery. My daughter got it for me for Christmas at Wally World cheap.
