Looking for advice/input on a navigation system for the wife. Have been researching the Garmin Nuvi 660, Tom Tom 920 and Megellan Maestro 4250. I have never had one so I am kinda in the dark, hence my plea for assistance. THANKS
My daughters have the Magellan Maestro and I have a Magellan Roadmate that is two years old. I paid $1000 for mine while my daughters paid only a couple of hundred for theirs. I actually like theirs better than mine because it has a battery but mine gives the actual road names. I don't think you can go wrong with ANY GPS system that is out on the market these days. All features are about the same. My advice, don't over analyze it, just buy it . MR JB
I got a Garmin Nuvi 650 about a year ago and have gone on a few trips with it and I think it is great and very user friendly.
We were in San Diego and wanted Italian food. Touched the screen a couple of times and it found the closest resturant and told me exactly how to get there.
A couple of friends have also got the Garmin 650 or 660 and they are also very satisfied...........
Good Luck with your choice....................
Just got my sister a Garmin Nuvi 350 for X-mas. She is technically incompetent and she could operate it on the first try, no problems. I paid $325 online. Doesn't have as many bells and whistles as the others, but she's happy with it.
I got my wife a Garmin Nuvi 200. Color screen, voice directions, good memory. Solid, no brainer unit with all the US maps already loaded. Good as a handheld as well. Paid $160 at Best Buy on Black Friday sale. Retails for $249.
This is the best, and least expensive, GPS we've owned to date and I've had a few.
I agree with others...I have a Garmin and used several others....they are all about the same. They all do one thing well...get you places. All the extra money is about the bells and whisltes you want...so evaluate whether you want it to be a music player, bluetooth hands free for your cell...etc. Mio's are nice, and the Tom tom's are pretty solid too. Good luck!
I'm AT&T wireless employee...the best thing that you can probably do would be to get a phone that has GPS integrated into the device. Once that's done, you can search the web for a "Windshield Mount" holder, and boom...turn by turn, voice guided navigation with lost-re-routing, traffic reports, favorite places, gas by price, pedestrian GPS mode and MORE.
Dispel a few thoughts:
1. Yes, it works only whereever there is cell service, however, should service go "down", it will convert to a fully text mode, giving you the whole set of directions ETC.
2. It's only $10 more a month over any data plan that you have. (Compare vs $300+ for a decent navigation system)
3. It NEVER needs updating or downloading of CD's, it does it by itself for free.
4. It covers the FULL United States in one shot, no need for any updates or anything.
5. It can route cross-country without modifications or alterations to the device.
6. You can use it even while walking, it will track your footsteps as well.
7. Gives you Estimated Time of Arrival and distance to destination.
8. No need for any extra accessories for this to work, lots of phones with built in GPS receivers.
9. In 3G areas, you may take a phone call while using navigation at the same time.
10. AT&T navigation by TeleNav is AMAZING! I plotted my way from Long Island, New York to Miami Beach, Florida!

I just got a Garmin C340 for Christmas. Garmin web site lists it as a discontinued model, but it had the latest maps on it. I use it a lot for my work and so far it has been a big help - very easy to use also.
I have a Magellan 760 but I'd recommend the Garmin. Magellan works good but wait til they screw up your updates and you have to call Tech suppport! Good luck!!
PS: Would advise knowing a second language when you call!
I was plant manager of the Rockwell plant that manufactured all the GPS units for the US military for the 1st 10 years of GPS. I have the Garmin 600 and a good friend just bought the Garmin 660. I can't say enough about the Garmin units, especially the ones with the back-lite 4.3' screens. You'll luv the 660!
