Default (Question) How to increase Acceleration/Torque?

I've heard that with a lot of horsepower, you get a higher top speed, but in my town I would probably never get to maybe even 150 or 130 so I'd rather go for acceleration. But how? I've heard more torque helps with this but I need some clarification. Also, how exactly do you increase torque? Any parts that I could add on/replace with better ones that could help? I've heard a bigger and better exhaust helps but I dunno. Any help people?

TIA

I thought that all Canadians were born knowing how to make things faster. The FI section is full of your fellow countrymen that would love to help you spend all your..., er..., help you go faster.

I'm just trying to you know, increase my knowledge. Is that so bad guys? Haha....

Oh and about the FI section, yeah that's the easiest, but i'm specifically going for like acceleration/torque. FI seems to easy.

Retune the car for torque, plus some add ons, CAI, LTs, a cam designed for torque vs HP.

Don't let 'em get you down Joel!! Shi! - When i was your age I learned how to do (The How To) thing w/ my 1st car, a 1946 Dodge Coupe w/a fluid drive 3 speed stick. How many of the 'ol fart! here (Like Me), know about those??

PS: For those of you that didn't know: In 1946
Gyro-Matic semiautomatic transmission became optional. This was an important sales point at a time when people were tiring of manual shifting. Fluid Drive with Gyro-Matic was a complex solution to a simple problem, combining a conventional clutch with a fluid coupling that multiplied torque like a torque converter; electrical shift circuits added to what one writer called a "full range of potential transmission trouble." The coupling performed the usual flywheel functions of storing energy, smoothing power impulses, and meshing the ring gear with the starter pinion.

Lacking a clutch-plate contact, a clutch was mounted in tandem. The fluid coupling was a drum filled with low-viscosity mineral oil. Running the engine rotated a set of vanes attached to the inner face that threw oil outward onto a facing runner with another set of vanes. The oil turned the runner to provide a smooth flow of power while avoiding any metal-to-metal contact.

Fluid Drive had two gear positions: Low, governing first and second gears, High for third and fourth. Low was mainly for fast starts or towing. In most other driving you simply shifted into High and pressed the accelerator, then let up at 14 mph, when a "thump" announced the shift from third to fourth. Stops and starts required no clutching or shifting, hence Chrysler's claim that Fluid Drive Gyro-Matic eliminated 95 percent of all shift motions. The clutch was there, but was used only to change between Low and High or to back up.

You know that long peddle next to the wide peddle? Well push it really really hard and hang on! GOOD GOD MAN, YOU'RE IN A VETTE!!!

But seriously congratulations on the Vette and the first thing I bought was a set of Borla Stingers then the list continued to grow and I don't think it will ever stop.

Ya know Joel you've got the world by the ,,,, well you're doing pretty good. To be your age and know already that you don't want a '90 Mustang or a VW Rabbit or a lifted pickup truck for a car you will skip right passed all the 10 or so cars we've all had before we finally found our first Vette. Just look at all the money you will have saved by doing it right the first time out. Good on you! The fact that you're HERE tells me you will be light years ahead of the dudes you hang around with in knowledge and "The Corvette Way". So learn what you can to make the clams to buy your first car (read Vette) and for the love of Duntov don't forget the pics!

There, Fixed it.

Glad to see your interest in the Corvette. But if your already looking at doing the speeds you mention above, the 1st thing to get is a good life insurance policy.
