Got hit today :(

I was parking and a guy backed into my car. His trailer hitch went through the front fascia, and ripped out some wires. Now my left turn signal doesn't work.
He had a Mexico license, and some kind of insurance so i jotted all the info down and went home to file a claim.
A while later the lady calls back and says they can't find any trace of him having insurance through that company. So what it boils down to is I have to pay for the repair myself. I should have called the cops
Atleast I have a pretty good dectuctible ($250), and I think I get a free rental. Oh well. What goes around, comes around.
Oh yeah, I'll post pics later.
, but it's hard. Good luck with your repairs. I realized after I started driving away that I probably should have called the cops. I think I was hesitant to though because the last time I was in a fender bender, I got SCREWED by the cops.
There were no witnesses, but the officer somehow had the right to give me a careless driving ticket, and when I went to fight it, the judge basically said I was S.O.L. (F**K New Jersey!)
There couldn't have been more than $200 damage to this buys bumper, but I still got screwed, and now I have 3 points on my license.
Oh well, AAA has taken care of it, and I was totally impressed by the timliness of the claim. Within an hour, I had the body shop, car rental place, and AAA adjuster call me to set everything up.
I took the car to Towne Auto Body in Redwood City (around the corner from where I got hit). I called the Chevy dealer and they told me thats where they take thier cars. The guy there was super nice and polite and made everything easy. I'm glad it didn't turn into a big hassle.
I'm looking on the bright side... I get to go SKIING TOMORROW!
In most states, private property accidents are not investigated by law enforcement unless it involves an injury or fatality. That's because state law precludes enforcement of most traffic law on private property. Reckless driving and DUI are about the only two criminal traffic violations that are usually investigated/arrest on private property.
Those agencies that do respond to private property accidents, usually do so as a courtesy to the citizen.
There's a reason for that, every private property parking lot door ding from another car or grocery cart would require an officer to respond. Do you really want officers responding to parking lot door dings when there's real emergencies to respond to?
Direct your anger at the uninsured driver who struck your car, not law enforcement who has no authority by state law.
If you want parking lot collisions investigated, bring the matter to your respective state representatives, then prepare to pay more taxes for the manpower/equipment, etc.

This comes from the CA motor vehicle code...
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d07/vc16000_1.htm
16000.1. (a) For purposes of this division, a "reportable off-highway accident" means an accident which includes all of the following:
(1) Occurs off the street or highway.
(2) Involves a vehicle that is subject to registration under this code.
(3) Results in damages to the property of any one person in excess of seven hundred fifty dollars ($750) or in bodily injury or in the death of any person.
(b) A "reportable off-highway accident" does not include any accident which occurs off-highway in which damage occurs only to the property of the driver or owner of the motor vehicle and no bodily injury or death of a person occurs.
Amended Sec. 5, Ch. 766, Stats. 2002. Effective January 1, 2003.
