some people say you have to pull towards you and then up....we were going to replace ours so we unscrewed it, noticed it was opening more put it back in and it opened all the way up the way it should.
you might want to try the pulling towards you thing. but im sure someone will come by with a definite answer
It's a two stage opening. It probably needs the hinge lubricated to get the second stage to open properly. It should open all of the way, 90* from closed.

I was knocked out when on here the 3inone oil drops on each of the four hinge points made the thing open the way I had wanted it to for the three years I put up with man handling the door prior to lubing it. It's like MAGIC!
My e-brake interferes with the second stage. Opens fine with e-brake off.
This is why it's got the funky hinge to begin with... so that you can open it with the e-brake ON. Oil the hinge points as stated below so that it works better and see what happens.

Let us know how well this works for you!!
It does work better, but still won't go to full open with e-brake engaged

Mine was the same, and then I found out on the forum that it is 2 stage. I used a bit of WD and then carefully loosened the 2nd stage until it opens properly. Be very careful not to force it as the mechanism isn't too robust.

I believe I read somewhere that the first stage allows the driver to open the console while driving and it keeps the contents from blowing all over the place. Some might think its a stupid design, personally I think it's very clever!
