IMHO i think this function is useless....Had I not gotten my car used I wouldnt have paid extra for SRC...regardless, my question is, when it is time to replace your shocks what have you done? Did you spend all that money to get a new set of the OEM SRC shocks or did you spend a fraction of the price and get something else that doesnt connect into the SRC system? Just curious bc when I hit 50k miles I think I will be doing a replacement...only 7k to go

I have SRC on my '04 and find it to be very useful. I haven't had my car long enough to require replacement yet so I can't answer your question as far as that is concerned. What makes you think it is useless?

I think it's a great combination, albeit at a high cost.
I noticed that your car is a 1999. They changed the selective ride to "Magnetic Ride" in 2003. From what I've heard, the early system like you have does not provide a noticable difference in the ride choices while the newer system does.
I have it on my 2003 (ordered it new with this option) and you can absolutely tell the difference in the ride. I plan to keep mine operational.
Ya, the mag ride is wayyyy better, but I still notice a difference between the settings of the F45 system. However, once I need to replace them myself, I'll only pick some up if I can find them extremely cheap. If not, probably will go with some C6 Z06 stuff (or maybe ZR1??) since it's pretty reasonably priced.

My bad. I should have read your profile first. I have the Magnetic SRC and I can tell ya ITS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
as for you mag ride folks....i dont get that system either.. my dad has a c6 and he ordered it with the mag ride and we both think it was a waste...cant feel a difference at all really. Just seams like its cool to have. Since mag is supposed to be better I would think I could tell the difference a little more. All my settings feel the same with SRC. I guess this is really personal preference. Does anyone know if any codes or anything would pop up if I changed out to bilsteins or any of the other aftermarket stuff??? since the shocks wont be plugged in anymore would that cause any issue with the computer?
i have the mag ride and can't tell a difference in any of the settings. im going with coilovers as soon as i can save up the money
Find a stretch of highway with a few "road imperfections" and speed limit of at least 60 and switch between the two settings. Trust me, you WILL feel the difference. Also, go over a railroad crossing in Sport and then go over it again in Tour. The system works
FWIW, Ferrari asked GM to allow them to use the same F55 suspension on their cars.

Yup on "uneven" city streets even, on tour it bounces/floats and same road with sport setting, it really stiffens with no bounce or float. Happens fast too, I really like this option myself, well worth it IMHO.

Additionally, it prevents body roll when cornering at high speed. Here a good link on both systems:
Another cool thing I noticed, being new to the C5 Mag ride, I would see a dip and slow down, no need now, the suspension making changes at 1,000 a second accounts for this somehow.
My Vette will not bottom out like all my other cars. So cool.
No authority on this but I believe it is a little more than just replacing with non factory F45 shocks. I read somewhere on here a while back that if you just replace shocks with aftermarket, you will automatically be limited to 80 mph and codes will show. I believe you can replace them, but then need to have electronic issues addressed with the tech 1. Hopefully, someone with much more engineering and technical knowledge will chime in here! Evil Twin, you out there?
I am curious as to what is involved also since I have the F45 and would not want to spring for the cost to replace them when the time comes. I will watch this thread for answers.

Reason: made mistake
The mag ride is definately more effective. As far as replacement most people with F45 delete the system and go aftermarket(koni, bilstein, etc.).
I have a 98 coupe with 70,000 miles with the F45. It is still operational and I can definitely feel the difference. When the F45 wear out, I plan to replace them with Koni FSD.
I have the F55 in my 03 and the difference is very noticeable. When the shocks wear out I have not yet decided to replace the VERY expensive mag shocks (~$600 ea. i think) with the Pfadt Coilovers ($1800/4). I am leaning towards the Pfadt's.
