I posted this a few times over the years and always had positive feed back..
I have seen Carbon fiber in the raw, and clear coated... the clear coated carbon fiber reminded me of Peanut Brittle... the actual carbon fiber is a very uneven fibered sheet... MCM vacuum forms the Carbon fiber on the top side, and you can get it cleared and vacuum formed and it is a smooth as the painted surface on the top side... But the under hood carbon fiber is not smooth like on the top side.. So there is an option not to clear coat the bottom , which is what I did... see picture... also the very rear of the hood needs to be satin black to give the illusion when the hood is closed and from the cabin, too be looking right into the engine bay.. when tis area is painted the same color as the car, it makes the hood look less than factory, or like it was hit a repaired..
I'M not trying to bad mouth those who have painted this area. I'M trying to show people who are about to paint their hood that there are options.. Ive received over 100 PM's of thanks over the years for posting this... its Just a heads up.,..Also when I open my hood people love to feel the raw carbon fiber. It really looks intimidating.
Not only is this a nice looking hood, its one of the only C5R inspired heat extracting hood on the market... because of the placement of the hood vent, it actually extracts hot air, any further back toward the windshied and this effect is removed because of negative down force at the base of the windshield, and cowl.
Not sure what this was suppose to mean but my pm box is working but there is no pm from you today...I did receive a PM from you a few days ago, to which I responded.
I have the Ecklers knock of of this hood and it has the same problem. I had a sheetmetal guy go to my body shop to make me two pieces to fit in the two larga areas. I will have them chromed platerd when they are done. Do you think I will have a problem with that? I am not a fan of carbon fiber
Mine is raw underside also. Great looking hood! A buddy of mine left his with a section of carbon fiber on the top and cleared it. Looks pretty nice. Mine is painted completely on the top.
I gave a copy of your do's and don'ts to my body shop when I got my hood painted. It came out great, except they forgot to blacken the rear face. I got to see it both ways, with and without. WHAT a difference the blackened area makes. Thanks for your ideas, they really helped.
