Default Engine covers; Velcro or silicone?

I bought a set of the Velcro-mounted unpainted engine compartment covers (Ecklers) and had them painted. It seems to me that the amount of Velcro they supply is minimal, at best. I want them to stay put, and plan on at least getting additional Velcro. I was wondering if silicone adhesive might hold them in place any better. Anyone ever tried this, or have any suggestions?

The only reason for using the velcro over silicone is the ability to remove for cleaning. Say you have a line pop under the hood or while at a show some kid spills redpop all over your engine...........need I say more?

Looks like you're doing a major engine bay upgrade. Be sure and post some pics when you're done.

That's a lot of "white"! Don't stop now. That's like the reverse of "murdered out". Don't forget the pics.

I think the biggest chore is finding an adhesive that won't turn into a goopy mess under the hood.

Yeah...about $1500 worth so far...and that's just the primary stuff. I was going to go with the chrome alternator, bracket and tensioner, but with everything else I'm doing, just don't want to tackle that install right now. So, I'm going to go with the heavy (14 ga) chromed covers for now. Maybe I'll tackle the alternator next winter. All the other covers will be the 14 guage chromed and all the caps are billet. The struts will be chrome (no covers), and I will probably put in chrome hinges, latches, etc, while I'm at it.

I think most will come from Creative Engine Covers (http://www.creativeenginecovers.com/). I like the style of theirs, and that they are actually heavier 14 guage and chrome, instead of polished.
Check out the nice billet caps that member NTRBL33 is selling. Very nice and reasonable price.

I have the chrome caps DJ sells, good product. I also have a couple of CEC parts & I love them. I don't have a pic of the caps installed yet.

Get some industrial strength velcro (got mine from Wal-Mart) and they should stay on there. Just be sure to let the adhesive on the velcro cure for about 24 hours before you stick the pieces on the car.

Default update 2/9/08

I went with Velcro...the industrial stuff from Lowes. It works great. The covers are on and look good.
I've put a few of the chrome CEC covers on and I'm waiting for chrome caps.
