Wifey can't drive a stick and is unwilling to learn. She said that if I ever want her to be my designated driver after I've been drinking, I shouldn't get a M6. I opted for the A4 over a life of sobriety.
Answer #3 is my reason. People never believe me either. If something ever happens to me or the car, she would never be able to drive. We do a lot of traveling, so I need help, we would be stranded. Maine is a very open space and the nearest hospital may be hours away and cell service is not always available. Those are just some of the reasons.
Another big reason was I drive in the city all the time. I have driven stick in the city and sometimes it is not fun.

I drive an A4 because it's what I preferred at this point in my life. I also bought a vert as opposed to a Z06 for the same reason. Nothing wrong with an auto, considering the Corvette was born with a Powerglide. I'm pretty sure you couldn't even get a manual until 56 or57.
I've got a auto in my '01 vert; it's my DD, and even though my commute is short and on relatively open freeway, just being able to plant my foot in it and not worry about shifting is still nice. I'm rather impressed with my sister; she, just like me, has learned stickshifting on my '86 4+3, and has actually taken it with her down to SoCal while she's at college.
I have no qualms with anyone picking a stick vs an auto; I know I probably would have gotten a stick shift if I hadn't gotten such an incredible deal on my '01. That aside, I kinda wish my '01 had that auto-manual setup like my dad's XLR has, it's a fun kickback to the SlapStik setup our '70 Barracuda has.
They've got this new thing now. It's called an a-u-t-o-m-a-t-i-c transmission. No longer do you have to flail away with your arms and legs to make the car go.
At the time when I was looking to buy a C5 no manuals were for sale. Then I got this sweet deal on my C5 and had to take it. She was mint couldn't turn it down. I love driving the A4,, smooth,, and fast ! I drive in the city alot so it's much better for me. And no,, wife does not drive it. I also have a 2003 350Z in a 6spd, now that's a fun little car too.
