How many of you got the A4 because you didn't know how to drive a stick? Just curious...

I am 56 years old and have driven standard shift since I was 13. I decided to drive automatics now that I am older. Bought a 5 speed a couple of years ago (DD) and was happy when I traded it for an automatic. America's a wonderful thing, you can decide for yourself.

I would guess very few A4 Owners do not know how to drive Stick. If you are buying a Corvette, most likely you have a history with cars or at least know a little about them. Alot of the time its a comfort reason, and thats why we chose to drive an Auto. For those who say its not a Corvette unless its an M6 How many M6 do you see at the track running in the 11's ? To be honest, I have no excuse to drive an auto, I am young, live in the country, and know how to drive stick, but an automatic just seems right for me

I know how to drive a stick, learned to drive with one. First Vette was a stick. I just choose not to buy a car with one now. Personal preference.

My first two vettes were automatics because they were daily drivers on the bumper to bumper southern California freeways. When I got my 99 last October I thought it time to do a stick, especially since I don't drive in stop and go traffic anymore. However, I like the stick, but if the Hard Top or FRC body style came with an automatic I would have strongly considered it.

I started driving a standard it was a 53 Chev Belair with a column shift (Three on the Tree) and have had several standards through out my life. I drive in Atlanta and the traffic is as bad or even might be a little worse than L.A. and besides that I have just gotten old and shiftless.

The first car I owned was a five speed mustang, and a manual ford ranger. I got the vette because I wanted one, and the one I own was available at the time, so I bought it. I love manual trannys though. My DD is a Mustang GT, which is my third manual car; now try driving that on snow and ice like today and yesterday.

The Vette is only the 2nd auto I've owned (out of 30+ cars).

My choice was Convertible or Stick

I want both, but have an A4. Am lightly looking for a Z06 as weekend car.

I always drove stick vettes but because of a handicap that effects my left leg I now drive an A4

I'm 58 and been driving stick shifts most of my life. I have made millions of shifts, not thousands. Now my truck and Corvette are autos. I like shifting from P to D and sometimes P to R and then to D.

Funy how history repeats itself. First there were stick shifts.
There were three on the floor and three on the tree.
Mercedes came out with a 4 speed on the tree.
Then came the automatic (Powerglide, Fluid drive, HydraDrive etc.)
There were automatics with push buttons, sticks on the tree and auto sticks on the floor.
Hurst made a His/Hers shifter for the goat where you could turn a key and shift it like a stick or let it shift automatically.
There were 3 speed sticks, then 4 speeds, then 5 speeds now 6 speeds.
There were 2 speed autos, 3 speed autos, speed, now a 6 speed.
Now there are paddle shifters (Grand Prix cars have had them for years) and now Constant Velosity Transmissions that don't shift at all.
I have a A4 because I like it. I also love to shift a car for performance, but since I drive mine mainly on the road and not on the track I selected an A4. I had a 63 SW Z06 with a Borg and Beck clutch years ago that I drove in traffic. My left leg is now more muscular than my right. I had my knee crushed in a helicoper crash in VN and the A4 is a godsent for me. Would I rather drive a stick Yup. Would my knee rather drive a stick no.

One good thing with car jackers, 99% of them do not know how to drive a stick.

How did you get that fact?

And it won't stop them from stealing your car.

I'm a true gearhead. I will not buy an automatic, not even for my daily driver.

But that's me.

When I was younger it was so much easier “double clutching and jamming gears,”
but now, I prefer shifting from P to D/R and let it do the work for me.
