They test a bunch of popular radars.
I bought 3 Whistler pro-58's
They are a little bigger than the $300.00 models but work just as good.
The good news is you can get them for around $100.00 and they detect pop radar and laser.I have had them a few years now and they have never let me down with very little false alarms. (very sensitive also)
have a good one and enjoy reading

DO NOT buy anything thats listed as a blocker/jammer. They are ILLEGAL(and most often, just a gimmick)! Radar/Laser detectors are passive devices, they do not interfere with the signals, they just tell you that they're there. Also, V1's aren't detectable either, I believe they use a magnesium case to prevent the leaking of the signals.
As for the not being able to pick up laser, my V1 thats 4 years old picks up laser just fine. The key is to not be driving by yourself, always keep someone else in front of you so that THEY get hit with the laser so you can detect it.
I have both the V1 and the 8500, not five cents difference between them as fars as performace goes. The arrows on the V1 are nice and the only thing that sets off the V1. However, do not think for one moment that the "man" can't pick up either of the units. I've got a buddy here in Virginia that is a State Officer, and we tryed out both V1and the 8500 to see if his sniffer would be able to pick them up. I happen to own 2 V1s and 2 8500 (all updated versions). We ran the test against all 4 units. Now granted you had to get within 5 feet or less before the V1's were sniffed out, and you had to actually get in the patrol car with the 8500s to set off the sniffer, but the fact remains that both will set off the sniffer used here in VA.
Of course this was for testing only, cause everyone knows that radar detectors are a no-no here in the "Peoples Republic of Virginia," and Virginians wouldn't use such a devil machine on the open roads of the commonwealth.
I have the Passport 8500. It’s the only detector that I have had, but it has defiantly saved my butt! Now if you get it hard wired take it to a quality place. I found screws under the seat after Bestbuy was done with it.

This is good stuff. I'll still remove the Valentine when in Virginia, but thanks for posting. BTW I love my V1.

not true at all i have a BEL 995 with a BEL905 Jammer and i can tell you IT WORKS ( a friend of mine is a Police Officer and we checked it out)
it is NOT illegal here in Alberta - BUT please check YOUR state laws it is also not illegal in most states to have - only illegal to USE one, thats why they come with an instant panic button (another friend is traffic lawyer)
The US Navy says I am an expert on radar, both in active and passive mode, and I have tried all the units. I will only trust the V-1. Lot of out there from other "experts". Of course you can use whatever you like! It's just my opinion.
