Radar Detector Help
DO NOT buy anything thats listed as a blocker/jammer. They are ILLEGAL(and most often, just a gimmick)! Radar/Laser detectors are passive devices, they do not interfere with the signals, they just tell you that they're there. Also, V1's aren't detectable either, I believe they use a magnesium case to prevent the leaking of the signals.
As for the not being able to pick up laser, my V1 thats 4 years old picks up laser just fine. The key is to not be driving by yourself, always keep someone else in front of you so that THEY get hit with the laser so you can detect it.
I am not one for blaspheming, but this one made me laugh. I know for a fact (from close friends in the po-po dept.) that the blocker/jammers, do as they claim, they block/jam the signal coming from the gun. So I am not sure where you are getting your info from, but it is not correct.
I myself am considering the Passport with blocker/jammer, and trust me I will try it out......

the v1 is got the cool arrow factor, but when i hear an alert. i hit the brakes first. for me its not important and more of a novelty, so not worth the extra $.

Other forum members say the sales people at Valentine will insist that there are no returned V1s in stock, but my salesperson said they had one in stock and placed my order. I have to say they have spectacular service also.
I ordered mine on Friday and had to select the two-day shipping because I live in Florida. I was supposed to get it early Wednesday, but they upgraded it to overnight shipping because they didn't send it out on Friday and I got it on Tuesday (today). They also only charged me for ground instead of the two-day.
My returned unit, with the original two-day shipping to Florida was $375 even ($359 for V1, $16 for shipping). The final cost was only $369 though because of the shipping mishap.
The returned unit that came looked brand new - I wouldn't know if they hadn't told me it was returned. The box was crisp and new, as were all the interior accessories and owner's manual. This weekend, I plan on hard-wiring it and I'm going to order the regular C5 visor mount from greatlakestrophies.com for my C4. The man at great lakes said I just had to use the stock screw for the mount. The suction cups worked great for me today, but I like the mirror mount more.

On the other hand, I'd have to wonder if a detector is money well spent nowadays. They are useless if you are running the point (no one in front of you). All but the least diligent traffic enforcement officers, use some sort of instant on radar/lidar gun. If you are the only one out there and your detector goes off- guess what- you're busted. In city/urban driving there's so much traffic, you're lucky to be within 10mph of the posted speed limit, let alone over it. Also, when in heavily populated areas, false alarms are inevitable. YMMV. But at the end of the day, I guess it's like beer in many ways in that it acts as courage juice.
Here is a site testing multiple radar dectectors....
Great Info.
