As said before, the higher the octane, the greater the resistance to combustion due to compression only. You want the spark to start the power stroke, not the compression alone.
High compression engine needs all the resistance it can get.
Don't skimp on your fuel just to spend it later on repairs....or bus fare.
Your comments are right on the mark. However, it happens that several top tier brands also include more (much more) detergents in their hi-test gasoline. Perhaps the original poster is confusing quality with higher octane rating because of this marketing decision?
The highest octane we have in Alaska is 90. Should I be worried at all? I wish we'd get something more reasonable up here, like... say, the 91 or better that's in the other 49 states.
you need to run top tier fuel in your vette. gm has a mountain of information on fuel quality. top tier fuel has NOTHING to do with octane. only brand name. do a search on the web for top tier fuel and you'll see what i'm talking about.
