Is it hard to pull off the stock cat back exhaust system or is it just me, I have been trying to pull the passanger side muffler off for two hours now and I give up. I will take it to my friends lift tommorow, I am tired of messing with it.
you have to jack it up real high to get enough ground clearance to get it off. get a set of jack stands and lift it up , place stands at rear support area then place boards under jack till you get it up enough to clear. passenger side is the hard one....but it will come off.
yea you got to get the tail end of the car way up there. When I did mine, it was so high the front of the car was on the ground. I hear it is really tough on automatics. One piece of advice disconnect the sway bar mounting brackets, and lower the sway bar, that also gives you some more wiggle room.
If you want to keep the OEM stuff in tact for future use (going back to stock if it ever becomes a "true classic" or whatever)... the rear has to be about 3 feet off the ground (definitely no less).
I took mine off without cutting, but it wasn't for the feint of heart. I lifted the car using (4) 2"x6" boards and a 3-ton floor jack. To be safe (can't skimp here), I screwed the boards together and notched the top and bottom boards to interlock with the rear cross member and the head of the jack. After blocking the front wheels, I unbolted the exhaust, jacked the car, and easily removed each side intact. Hardest part was fabricating the blocks.
10 minutes with a lift. If you have an auto trans, you have to drop the gas tank shield and shift the tank over just a bit. Remove the center
sway bar mounts and swing the bar down. There shouldn't be a problem after that.
