Default Dangling Air Dam

What holds the center air dam piece to the frame other then the wire lanyard that is allowing it to hang to the car now?

There is an entire spring loaded support that the center air dam connects to. If you simply have a wire lanyard, I would say someone "jury rigged" it there.

It has a bolt on each end, and 2 near the center with aluminum brackets that "hook" into the back of the air damn. least that's what my 98 has.

Hi Hayman -

The center portion of the air deflector is held in place with bolts on each side.

The deflector has a relatively flimsy metal frame with stamped-in brackets that are (apparently) designed to bend when the deflector comes in contact with debris. The rubber lip is hinged to allow it to bend back and then return if the lip hits debris, but I found out about the brackets when I hit something more substantial than the hinge-arrangement allowed for lol.

If the rubber lip on the deflector is dangling by what you describe as a wire, I suspect that the hinges have become separated from the frame/bracket.

While it may be possible to rig something up to fix it, I would submit that you can buy a new center section (frame and all) for ~$55.00 USD.

best regards -

mqqn

I used black zip ties on mine, because I replaced it twice, and the third one which is now on the car is wrecked again. I just zip tied it up and have had zero problems since.

Is this a complete kit with all the hardwear? It would seem everything is gone from mine. Where do I get this kit? Steelership?

Might give this a try in the mean time. Thanks

Sounds like you have a missing spring.

Here's the back side of a new one.

I made mine fall off after a samll (forced off the raod by big rig) accident. The small bracket that hold it on has springs that let it flap. Well I broke mine & rebuilt it with 1 1/2 inch square tubing and 4 small but storng coil spring with a bolt running through them. It works better than before and the new brace is much stronger and it only cost around $7.00 for all the parts.
