Wow!

I just don't know what to say. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but glad you were not injured.

It's amazing the crashes people have in C5s and walk away unhurt.

Glad to hear your O.K. But very sorry to see your Vette in that condition. Hope you can get the racing part straighten out... looks like the cars pretty much totalled.

That sucks! I have no tolerance for intoxicated drivers. If you were doing exactly as you said, and the witness is wrong, the truth will set you free. Would this be a good instance in where that little black box that records the last several seconds before an accident would come in handy?

If so, it would show you doing the speed limit at the time of the accident.

Wow.. tough break. I think if you get a racing charge your best bet is going to be dressing in a nice suit, going before the judge and respectfully pleading your case. Fact is you *were* racing -- racing to get away from the hazardous drunk. Unfortunately that doesn't make it OK -- it was a bad judgement. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not trying to speak down to you... heaven knows I've made some bad decisions behind the wheel in my time, too.

Most importantly, glad to hear you're OK. Cars can always be replaced.

That should be an easy one to defend. You were trying to get clear of him.

Sorry to see the Vette in that state. Hope you find a good replacement.

You'll definitely want to mention that the guy seemed to be pacing you (from how you described it), cause the cops'll probably try and tell you "well you shoulda just slowed down and let him pass on by".

Here in Illinois, if you are gharged with street racing or racing period you are arrested for it. If you werent arrested, I dont see how that charge can completly stick.

I have done the same thing, sped up to avoid the other driver. I have slowed down etc and gave them room to pass and go on, and it just makes them more stupid and leads them on to do something stupid.

Glad your ok, it will work out, just tell the truth, and tell the judge why you sped up from what you saw before the crash.

At least he hit you and you were able to walk away from it

Chances are if you had slowed down and he took off he would have ended up hitting a pregnant women with her two kids in the car and killing them

That sucks big time. If you had slowed down, they would have done the same thing. They were out drinking and saw a Corvette to test their car against. As stated, you should be able to tell the judge what you observed in your mirror and that you just wanted to get away from them. And then when they started pacing you, you felt for your life. Shoot, if they had paced you and you ignored them, they might have just swiped you for the fun of it. Technically, you could have just slowed down and ignored them and turned off at the 1st opportunity but that is hindsight and you may not have had the chance. Witnesses will all see different things as well. I think you have a pretty good chance especially since the driver and passenger in the other car were under the influence though. As for the drunk drivers, too bad they couldn't run into a concrete barrier and do the rest of the general public a service. They are seldom the ones to get hurt, it is usually the innocent family that leaves behind kids that have to deal with the loss of parents. They ought to put them in prison and announce they are gay before they assign them to a cell.

I'm glad you're OK, sad to see the car like that. I've been driving a long time, and maybe I might have some good advice. Whenever you see a drunk or some other driving Ahole, dont try to out run/out pace them. Just slow down and get them in front of you. If you try to get away from them the situation will ultimately be the same, now just faster than it was before. Good luck, Im sure you were not racing. Try to get that removed (lawyer or what ever) you don't deserve to pay the price for that drunk.
