couple of post over the last week or so have bothered me. While I can understand the whole "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anthing at all" deal, there is a time for honest constructive criticism, especially when it comes to new products. I'm not talking vendor bashing, just blunt & honest discussion.
example one was a product in another section where everyone was posting that it was a thing until one guy had a question about the material not being strong enough and the possibility of bolts being stripped out.
example 2 was a zaino thread where someone posted that the car looked great except for 1 mod that looked "tacky"
I've always thought this was a place to go to get good honest information, but if no one is willing to say anything negative what's the point of even asking. If no one is willing to say product X is a piece of junk, we need to look other places to get good information.
Exactly! Words or abbreviations like "IMO" (In My Opinion), or "To me" help relay the fact that your opinion may not be reflective of everyone else's. Still, some people get upset even if you back up your opinion with facts. I once noted that 33% of the first 12 reviews of the General UHP tires mentioned that they were very noisy. Some people became highly irate, just because of that!
In example 2: He was just posting a some pics of his freshly zaino'd ride and then came the negativity, even though there were alot of positive posts, the negative posts take the thread off topic very quickly.
part of it also is that everyone seems to need to put in their 2 cents, as i am now, and make a comment thats not directed at the original topic or seem to bash someones mod. yes opinions matter and its up to the person whether to take that opinion to heart. It can just as easily be ignored or stated that " well thanks for your opinion, but i like it" and just let it go.
I agree completely. You need both sides of an argument or its not an argument. Some things are good and others just plain
Dave68 and I disagree totally on batteries but it doesn't stop us offering well intentioned opinions. And lets face it, all you'll get on a discussion Forum is just that. Unless the posts are backed up with the Service Manual they are only opinion. But I learned almost everything I know from posts here. Good and bad
In example 2: He was just posting a some pics of his freshly zaino'd ride and then came the negativity, even though there were alot of positive posts, the negative posts take the thread off topic very quickly.
guys; I think the op is complaining about those that complained about the complainers:
but if no one is willing to say anything negative what's the point of even asking. If no one is willing to say product X is a piece of junk, we need to look other places to get good information
My thoughts are that this is an "open for public discussion" forum. The only way to kontrol responses is with this:
I do agree with Dave68 that mentioned appreciating when "IMO" is added to a post. I too think that's a big help in understanding the meaning of a persons comment.
a person needs thick skin to be subject to public comment. Sad; but a fact of life.

Try posting a no-cats thread. If you are thin skinned you will be upset by people who will probably never see your car except for pic's that you post, so,it's the internet and EVERYONE has an opinion, good or bad. Accept it for what it is, no bar fights here
I don't think people voice their opinions enough a lot of the time.
If you don't like my car or what I have done, who cares. My car is blue, I love it. Of course there have to be people who hate blue, so what.
Kumbaya to all.
I guess it was my post... this forum is going to ****... most of the fun OGs are gone. If you put stupid **** on your car I will tell you... I've been a busy guy because C5 owners insist on putting stupid **** on their cars more and more as the cars get cheaper and cheaper
Guess I need to go find that post and see if my words were edited or removed.
Most other car forums are brutal but fun... if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.... here on CF it's a bunch of adults that were dorks in school and can't seem to take any sarcasm or critique. My $0.02.
I've never understood why people get all upset over an opinion on a website... if you put it on your car you obviously like it... so who cares what I say?
