I get this message on isolated random occasions."remove key wait 10 seconds" If you don't motor stalls when you try to move. For the record it's a 2000 FRC. No noticeable pattern to the occurrences, and when you comply the car starts and runs fine.Has me puzzled, and makes me wonder what is going on. ANY IDEAS ???
Dude, it's a column lock issue... read the post it notes above... Do a search... but most of all get your self a column lock bypass from Corvettes of Houston and all will be good!!
I am kinda new to C5s Been reading threads about the column lock but come away more confused.was not sure the 10 second thing was directly related to it.I did run the service history and it's been in for 2 recalls. 1 for the harness and 2nd for a "reprogram".The column does not lock(it makes the noise but does nothing)don't know if a clb has been put in so I
ve ordered one to be safe(along with a cags eliminator) So will the CLB eliminate the message?

GM has 3 recalls in their attempts to fix this issue. The numbers are 4006 A, B and C. Sounds like you have the first two fitted. Don't go near a dealer even though some say the 4006C mod finally works.
You dont say if the wheel is locked. You need to free up the steering before you fit the CLB. Try rotating the sterring wheel firmly a few times if it is. Be persistent.

This is a common problem with the C5 - a column lock bypass will eliminate the issue.
Mine also said that a while back (4 months maybe) I cleaned the resistor chip with an alcohol pad and sprayed a few squirts of "canned air" into the ingnition hole - no more problems.
I had my old 97 Corvette with only about 40,000 miles on it towed in twice in two days for the same thing. GM refused to cover it under the steering column recall even though it was related to it. The dealership charged me about $450.00 to repair the problem. GM should have covered it under the recall. For this reason I quit buying GM vehciles other than a new C-6. GM does not stand behind their problems nearly as well as other car companies. I sat in the dealership for about 6 hours before they finally fixed my car and it was the same day that I was to leave for our Black Hills Corvette Classic. The steering column issue practically ruined our vacation. There was another gentleman from Canada who had his column locked up too. GM is terrible for taking care of customers after the warranty is over.

worked for me
Is your car subject to the column lock issue? If so, have you had the column lock serviced by the dealer or have you installed the harness?

Once you fit CLB all your troubles will go away.
To clarify the column makes the noise like the solenoid is trying to kick th pin in or out , but the wheel dose not lock, you can turn the wheel with the key off/out. Just get the random message/stall,and as stated pulling the key 10seconds lets me go on normally.

I've cleaned the chip already, never thought of the ignition ,will give that a try as well.It hasn't caused a problem so far, just a big pain in the a$$.Just hope I can recognize the GM crap when I get into the CLB install.I want this B.S. behind me before the really good cruising weather arrives.Got some decent days coming this week wish the CLB was here.

The install is simple and straight forward. You will not have an issue unless you try and use your fingernails as tools. A 10 year old could do this install. Just get it done as soon as you get the parts!
Does this---"CLB" actually have something to do with this message--
"remove Key Wait 10 Seconds " ??
I too have had the most recent recall where dealer removed the locking mechanism from the column, about 4 months ago. When I went to start it up last week, I got this same message for the first time?
Have not tried the "clean the key" method yet. But I thought the CLB was just for if you still have the "locked up" column issue?
Listen to the Junkman, he is wise beyond his many many many years
One of the recalls done to your car removed the locking plate so no, the wheel will not lock even though you hear the pin engage. The CLB you ordered will include a device to retract that pin permanently. The other part will prevent it from engaging in the first place. The install is very easy but if you are nervous, just take your time and thorougly read the instructions.
On another note, save yourself from the sharks and always do a search before fishing for info. It will save your toes!
Junkman is a youngster to me I have one rather large problem when it comes too doing a search--Not a clue how to do one.Kinda have limited computer skills and only know a little more than the basics when it comes to poking around the forum.I've learned a few things,, but there's a whole lot more that I don't know compared to what I do know.I can rip a big or small block apart and put it back together, but computers leave me somewhat bewildered. So all I know how to do it is ask questions.Bingo bright idea---How do you "Do a search" on a topic?

Good luck with this............ I have the same issue "very random". This is following the CLB and new harness. What seems to work for some/most, does not work for us all.
