I run 93 in all my sports cars usually from Sheetz or Liberty. The dealership chewed me out once for using 91 when I was in MD. Wish I felt comfortable using regular since it's about $10 more for the good stuff but the manual says premium. I've talked to a lot of people that use 87 in their sports cars that say they have never had any problems.
95...the lowest they do over here. But it does cost $2.20................................... ........................................ .....................................a litre!!!!!!!!!!! work that one out.
I did clearly state under normal operating conditions, and since you have to constantly state both...is there some secret mode between open and closed loop?
Then why is the low octane table not ever fully used in normal operation? It is a safety net...a worst case scenario table.
Yes, excessive knock can definitely damage your engine, and yes..the PCM has the capability to correct for that, and to the extent codes will be thrown before full spark retard capability is ever achieved.
So are you saying engine damage can happen in normal operation with no DTC's present, even though the PCM has the capability to further retard timing in the event of that occurance?
Then tell us why, since you've so far failed to do so.
If you have to run from the forum everytime someone politely questions your comments, that's pretty damn sad, I can and do admit when I'm wrong, and am always willing to learn.
Anyways, run away like you always do instead of posting a meaningful reply, and I will baby my little 11.7:1 engine along for another year, which btw runs just fine on 93 octane btw with 0 KR.
If you drive like you have a wedding cake on the front seat and its 45 degrees outside at 5000 ft elevation, they you will probably never have any knock or ping. You could probably run 83 octane.
But if you are in Phoenix at 1500 ft with the AC on full blast in 115 degree heat, try getting on the freeway on ramp with the go pedal down and tell me you dont ping with 87.
So to cover all the scenarios, you go with the recommended higher octane.
This appears to be a thread that will cause a lot of arguments, let's shut it down. If you all can play nicely w/o badgering one another great. If you can't make a proper comment about something DO NOT post it.
