Sucks that im new and never got to experience your wealth of knowledge.
You damn shade tree mechanics ruined it for the new ones that really wanted to learn about this car. It was my dream car for so long and I finally got it. I am in no way disappointed with this car. I love everything about it, besides the fact I want more power to kill myself with. lol.
Wish I was on here before to see how it really was.

I have only been on CF for a relatively short time and have always trusted your posts.......this is because I respect experience.......a view that I have grown into over my 30+ years in my own profession.
Wish you would write a book on what the C5 owner needs to know

There are some really good people on this forum, but unfortunately there are more wanna Be's than good knowledgeable folks..seak them out..and there are hundreds of archived posts with my name on them...in the six years Ive been here Ive commented on all of the areas of this car that I am an expert in.. So Ive posted over and over again on things I know.. I never post in areas that I have very limited knowledge.. remember there were several hundred engineers and techs that worked this car into the masterpiece that it is.. The one thing that Ive said for 6 years on this forum is " Be careful who you listen too" This is not your grandfather's Buick.
I am also trying a new approach to helping... if I choose to post in an open thread, it will be just a one time post, with my input, no arguments or rebuttals.. no defense of my credentials.. No bloodshed.
I'M also not spending 6 or 7 hours a day here 7 days a week any more, I have found something new to occupy my time. Sex ] : ) yeah and with a live person and a female too..no more blow up dolls for me. If I cant be mean and nasty anymore, I need to shift that Evil-Twin guy into a new state of evilness. And If I shifted to that Bill guy, you know the geek!!! I would bore everyone to sleep.
The End

Thanks for coming back, if only in a limited way,
Jim
Jim, thank you for the kind words, but I dont need to write a book,,, dont over think what we have already thought out for you..perfect example the Oil life monitor system.. we had it down so good that as I was leaving GM in 2000 what we found it to be a well written program..could even be better than we originally thought through testing..thats why the base line was increased to 15000 miles from 10,000 miles... Point being the Oil life monitor was even better than we designed, and this could only be seen through field testing over a five period. So you already have the book. the maintenance guide... follow it, the car is a 200,000 plus mile car... with more people approaching 300,000 daily.. with a 1/4 million made this car is just now showing its real colors.
Please, post more and hopefully you'll scare off more of these tight asses who still can't figure out what floor mat brand and exhaust plate will make their Vettes look even more tacky.
Yeah and maybe he could get into the heavy stuff like the best durometer for the performance hood seal. Curious minds would like to know.

we tested durometer readings for millions of years , I personally like 84.... 83 is too soft, and 85 is too hard... I get alteast 20 % more horse power using 84... but then you also have to consider how much wax is on the car.. and if you use front to back polishing strokes, or circular ones..you know straight front to back strokes can yield considerable gains in engine torque and front wheel traction.
I'M sorry to you newbies here, Ive shed alot of blood here over the last 5 or 6 years, and I'm too old to stand up for what I know is right... Ive helped thousands here over the years, but unfortunately at a big price... that wont happen again.. so I dont post in open forum.. or maybe just once in a thread... but I dont argue with anyone any more... I see so much bad information being tauted here as fact its very sad... This wonderful car can see mosts users well past 200,000 miles and with a lot of joy...but unfortunately there are so many skeptics here and bashers of the very people including myself who delivered this car with a balance of Price and performance unequaled anywhere in the world... if this car was perfect, it would be well out of the reach of our target market and you certainly could not afford it...so you bitch about the cheap leather and the poor radio etc.....This car was target priced at 50 grand and in any other market this very same car would be 100 grand... build it in Stuttgart and put a Porche badge on it and its 120K. OK Ive said my piece. Have agood night folks.. pm me if you need some help...

Pffft call yourself an engineer? Side-to-side straight polishing strokes on the hood will create more front wheel traction through downforce! Back to school for you! Any F1 pitboy would know that!

great to see you back, Have enjoyed your posts and never really understood why people would argue the way they did with you. Thats life, we get over it and find a way to overcome. Glad you are back and I think your new approach is a good idea to keep the bickering down
Well, I started this thread because I wanted to talk to a GM Engineer regarding a non-C5 related question. I'm glad I got to talk to Bill in PM's a little bit and have since gone back and looked at past posts from him in other threads.
I'm glad Evil-Twin responded to this post and get the support he has gotten on this thread. I value the wisdom of the people that worked on this car and it is a precision piece of machinery (and I agree that it is undervalued too).
I have seen it before with bickering on a car forum. I belong(ed) to a Ford Model A forum. Now this is a 75 year old car that some people have a lot of experience with rebuilding and not the same engineering as seen on the C5. I was put off by the name calling, bickering, etc. that Bill indicated here. I'm no expert, I just want to learn from them.
