Default Twilight Sentinal Question...

How is this feature supposed to work?

I went into the DIC and set the Twilight Sentinal to "ON"
With it set that way, the headlights open up when I start the car (during the day). Is this supposed to happen? It may have been dim in my garage when I started it, and it may be that they would have closed again after a pre-set amount of time, but I just figured that's what they do when you have TS turned on. Is that the case?

Is there a way to set it so they stay closed until it gets dark and then they open up and turn on?

Confused.

Thats how it works,
Mine would always open up in the garage, then a few minutes later they'd go back down. (Until I pulled the fuse, CDN car)

There is a sensor.....on the dash? I believe.

Someone will correct me If ive mistaken.

The twilight sentinal option turns on your headlights when it is dark. They turn off again when it's light out (after a delay, which can also be set in your DIC config menu). They are controlled by a little black-domed sensor on your dash, on the right side of the defroster vent.

So, if you started up your car in a dimly lit area, the lights would've come on, but should turn off after you drive into daylight (30 sec or so, depending on the delay you've set in the DIC menu).

Default Ah ha...

Maybe I just didn't wait long enough for them to close back up. I didn't want to drive around during the day with the headlight doors open. But it would be nice for them to open on their own when it got dark enough. (Do I sound lazy?)

Thanks for the answer.

Yup, that's the way they work. If you want them off faster while in the light, turn your headlight switch on, then off. They should go down. That's what mine does anyway.

Most of us "garage" guys disable this feature to save wear and tear on the motors and gears.

It is a great feature that I use on ALL my other cars.

I find they come on late in the evening too. I've had cops flash their lights at me to turn my lights on coming into the evening. Kind of defeating their purpose if you have to turn them on manually anyways.

I pulled the Twilight Sentinel relay on mine, saves the wear and tear on the headlight motor. Besides, I've always felt the C5 loses on its good looks when the headlights are up, so I wait as long as possible before I turn the lights on manually.

When I'm cruising in the evening, I turn the "parking" lights on plus the fog lights, so I don't have to raise the frogs eyes until it's dark enough.

In the garage they will come up every time. Disable it, it's a pain.

Hey Michael, after you've turned the feature on in the DIC, I believe the next screen is where you set the delay time for how long the lights stay up after enough light is detected. They will always come on when you start your car in your garage unless you have an unusual amount of light in your garage or the sensor on the dash is sitting in direct sunlight. The usually come on if you enter a tunnel or stop under a overpass so I can't figure out why yours don't come on at dusk unless your sensor is out of whack.

I do not get why you would pull the relay rather than just turning it off. I would love to find a way to keep the TS on, and not have it pop up in the garage.

Default Hmmm

So I have the lights that come on when it gets darker like at night or in a tunnel, but go off when it's bright again....However I don't have an option for the twilight sentinal thing in my dic when I scroll through the messages...though the book shows it..what gives?

It probably shows in all manuals but I believe it was an option, not standard equipment. Your options button should reveal it if it was ordered, plus your build codes in the glove box.

Do you have a Canadian spec car with the 300 kph speedo? If so, you cant deselect TS and theres no option on the DIC.

I don't know if my car is canadian but yes I'm pretty positive my speedo goes to 300 and has a button for english and metric..

But ya if that's true then I guess you really do learn something every day...

Also if I have a "canadian spec car" is that a bad difference from the rest? Perhaps that's why I have a Canadian wife...hmmmm

Sonds like you do

I wouldn't say worse but different standards for the Canadian maket. You'd still have the E/M switch but the car defaults to metric unless its reflashed.

If you have any of these RPOs you probably have a Canadian spec:

A4G Override Option of Canadian Requirement
U19 Instrument Cluster, Metric (Canadian, Export)
Z49 Modifications, Canadian, Mandatory Base Equipment

Zilla could give you more of an idea.

Sorry to the OP for the thread creep

TS is an option but it was part of most of the Preferred Equipment Packages but mandatory in Canada

T82 Headlamp Control, Automatic on/off (Twilight Sentinel)

Sounds like you have a Canadian car which makes sense living in WA
