I'm currently looking to purchase a C5 Z06 and it seems that every post I see or for sale add has to do with "never driven in the rain" or "only caught in rain a couple times". Whats the deal with this? Is there something that becomes damaged when/if driven in the rain???
The "never driven in rain" clause is a selling point for those who really obsess about their car and its appearance. Generally, they have far less dirt and grime on the undercarriage, wheelwells, etc. and that just makes people feel better I think. Also, such a statement suggests the owner really babied the car.
However, contrary to the belief of many folks, these cars actually do not melt in the rain or snow!

I see, I've never seen this on any other car postings before so i wasnt sure if it had something to do with the c5 specifically or not. I was getting worried that i had fallen in love with a car I couldnt drive in the rain, lol. Thanks for clearing that up for me

Those people should have bought a poster and invested their money. After rarely enjoying the cars they're selling their super low mile Vettes at a loss. I don't understand it.

I agree. I think its silly to put all that money into a garage queen that never gets driven rain/or shine. I know if I put that type of money into a car that was as exciting to drive as these are I surely wouldnt let it waste away in my garage!
The name Corvette came from a ship. They will not melt, they don't want to get it dirty. Rain it will be fine, 20 inches of snow, stay home. My bet it will not go.
Drove my 99 FRC Friday 300 miles to Vette Expo in Sieverville Tn rained all the way there.Cleaned it up Friday afternoon to look as good as new.Misted rain most of the way home today too.Rain didn't hurt it at all.Would have been great to have had sunshine but I enjoyed driving the car just the same.
why would I want to drive a Corvette in the rain? you lose every performance advantage in the rain, the car becomes another hunk of metal on the road, and then I gotta wash it all over again.
They don't melt and they are not harder to clean than any other car. If anything, the smooth lines of the car make it easier to clean. Yes, people can do what they please-whatever. I drive mine every day. In the last week it got rained on hailed on and a bit of snow-right now it's probably one of the cleanest cars on the road. (I'm good at detailing and not afraid to say it.) My Dad only drives his in nice weather-and it has nothing to do with it being harder to clean, because I clean it. Everyone can make their own choice.
Ok, I'm done. Cleaning 5 cars in under 24 hours (Waxing one of them-MINE) made me cranky in a good way.
I do a lot of shows and I've been caught in some pretty bad rain storms and you know what-they don't melt! The C5 compared to the C2,C3 and especially the C4 is a simple and easy car to clean after getting caught in the rain. They handle pretty good even with the runcraps but don't expect to go far in the snow.
I have never driven my car in the rain and that is not BS. However, I bought it used so I know it has seen rain. It probably saw rain in the BG assembly plant lot. So, when I do get caught in the rain, it will not be a big deal. I prefer not to wash the car, simply dust it off. I only need to wash it twice a year. I wonder if the wipers work? The windshield washer fluid is at least six years old and has never been used during that time.
Don't let someone tell you how to use your car. Drive it daily or admire it in the garage. Your choice!
