That is VERY true.

You have to take a test to drive.

You must get certifications for certain jobs.

You have to take an exam to be an accoutant or lawyer.

But ANYONE can screw and have a kid.

It all comes down to respect, not really about the car. Next time, if the parents won't do anything about it, just yell loudly at their kids and scare them off the car. The parents might care a little more if you MAKE it their issue.

I am extremely impressed at your level of maturity and your ability to keep your cool. I have a very low threshold for people (children or adults) that act irresponsibly. Honestly - I don't know what I would have said or done.

I am a facility manager for a large company - I have responsibility for 120K sq. ft. - with 500 people doing their level best to keep me busy. I see irresponsible behavior every day. If I had encountered this I can guarantee that I would not have been polite or sensitive.

Sometimes, ya' just have to shake your head and wonder how bad it's gonna get.

So while I am waiting I notice two 4 year old girls running around and playing tag around my car and sitting on the hood. That is not acceptable to me at all. So I approach the parents (by the way I am 24, so relitively young) and ask very if they could please make sure that thier kids don't touch my car anymore and that I would apreeciate it. They both look at me for a moment and then burst out laughing in my face! Then the get silent and ask me "oh are you actually being serious?" I replied, yes of course I was being serious! Then then ask me how a spoiled rich boy can afford a car like that and if that is even my car. (I pay for it myself, no help since I was 18) Then they say I will remember this moment when I am an adult and have children and I will feel like an azz****. They said I was completly out of line to tell them what to do with thier kids. Then there mini van pulls up and they leave. I am still angry about it so I just had to get it out.

Man I feel so sorry for you, I INTIMATELY KNOW YOUR FEELING. I am a HS teacher, and one of the good guys. I give tons to the kids in help and encouragement, this week I WAS SPAT ON BY A STUDENT.

Don't get me wrong, there are MANY, MANY GOOD KIDS. (believe it or not even the kid that spat on me had a stupid moment, and I forgive him) What I do see, is kids with ACUTE APATHY and disrespect, and it all stems from THE PARENTS. Today's parents in many instances can't say no, and be parents. They in turn give their kids everything, and leave us with the monsters. Only 68% of all kids graduate HS now, can you figure out why? Those parents and those ill behaved children are the future, trust me, it's getting worse. After much thought, I've decided to leave teaching at the end of this year. I can't change it, only the parents can, it's just taking too much of a toll on me. Sorry man, needed to vent,

John

They are a couple of complete f ups in my opinion. They have no respect for anyone else. You are a better man than I because I would have went off when they started laughing.

I am sure I wouldn't been as kind as you were, You also need to take this up with the Head Valet, It is there responsibility to make sure your car is somewhat safe.

I was sooooo waiting for this post Hi Randy

I have to agree with Randy and the others---you showed amazing restraint and great maturity so kudos to you. I can't say I would have been so polite after a responce like you got---I have NO tolerance for crap like that I was raised to respect other peoples property and keep my hands to myself--more parents should try the concept. It doesn't matter which car it is---its disrespectful but to get the attitude you got---OMG...I had better quite now while I still can---how maddening

Should have jumped on the mini-van and asked them how it felt to have a spoiled little boy on their hood.
I am guessing you won't have that problem with your kids, you sound like more of an adult than those *****.

John.
You are correct in saying it is the parents fault, But it is also our society, It all goes back to not being able to give a swift kick in the @ss when needed, I can remember my mom taking what ever she had to whip my butt and I respect her for that, I learned a lot from that woman, This BS of time out in your room with your Video games to play is pure bunk. . ... Parents can not punish kids like the old days in fear of having the so called child services down there back.

I would have been crazy pissed!!! I am 23 yrs old and I would never have let people talk down to me!!! My Z06 is MY car, I paid for it and my parents or anyone else helped me pay for the things I have!!

I would have pointed out their VERY poor parenting, letting their children fun around touching and doing what they want!!! I was either yelled at or hit for acting dumb!!!

I definately would have made a seen!!!!

Lucky it was not my car.

The father would have gotten a knuckle sandwich for dessert, that would let them know that I was serious.

What a$$holes.

I would have called the cops and reported them driving while Intoxicated with children in the car.

Great inputs here. Interestingly, you need a license to drive, but not to have kids. I've owned Vettes since 1962, and am convinced they are a-hole magnets -- on the highway and in parking lots. Such occasions are rare, but memorable. Brace yourself, there will be more.

I agree there. Not only did they act like complete jerks to the OP but they were also taking a chance driving with their children in the car after they had been drinking--what great role models they are...

You have amazing restraint for a 25 year old and those ladies are full totally off when they said you have no right telling them what to do with their kids. You do when they are messing with your property!! I would have told them to get their kids the F*** off the hood of my car right now. The lack of respect for personal propery is . They just assume you are spoiled and wealthy and are being an AZZZ over your precious car. The fact is that these are not expensive cars but scratches and such devalue the car. A mid level paint job cost around $5k. They should be teaching their children to respect other peoples property but they are too damn stupid.
