Default Michelin Run flats

Just put on a new set of Michelin Zero Pressure runflat tires. Had the GY RF on before that. I can tell you that the difference is amazing. I can talk to my wife without having to say "what" all of the time. Also, the GY's after upgrading the A4 from 2.73 gears to 3.42 gears would get squirrley shifting into 2nd gear at WOT. The Michelins just lay a nice patch but tracks staight. I'm lovin them.

Thanks for the info. Had the 3.42's installed this winter, and my spring "mod" is tires. Glad to hear you are pleased. I really wanted the safety of run flats.

Yep and on wet roads they hold just as well too.

I've got 16K on a set, so far very happy with them. I wish GY had revised their EMT to be more like the ZPs.

I put the Michelin run flats on my '02 last year and this week I put them on my '04. They are totally a different tire then the crappy goodyears; they are quiet and ride nice.

Yes.

What mileage and are they ZPs?

As the mileage comes up on them they do get a little more noisy but nothing compared to the OEM EMTs.

What does Michelin state as to how far you can run on a flat and at what mph?
GoodYear is 200 miles at 50 mph. I understand this can be done because the sidewalls are extreamly hard which acounts for the hard ride.I not sure the Michelin Run Flats can match this spec.

I believe it's 50 miles.

No mine are not the ZPs, They are the Michelin Pilot Sport AS had the Goodyear Run Flats and they were crazy loud but I bought these because they were to be quieter. and they are but not happy at all, only have 1,000 miles on them and running 30lbs in them.

Your owners' manual says that with zero pressure you can run for 50 miles at no more than 55 mph, AND you should be able to REPAIR the tire. If you go over and up to 200 miles on zero pressure at or less than 55 mph, you MUST replace the tire.

Michelin's information just says 50 miles at or less than 55 mph.

This specification about mileage on zero pressure, although gets you home or to a repair shop, is more about defining the point where you must replace the tire after an incidence.

I dunno, must be I'm terminally unique. Just put on a brand new set of Goodyear EMT's and they ride quiet and smooth as a baby's butt. ANY tire gets harder with age.............I run between 28 and 29 Cold in the summer, set the camber to -0- and remain a happy camper No roadnoise as all I hear are the ARH's and Corsa Indys

I'm far from a flag-waver IMO, however ..........
Goodyear has chosen to build their new World Headquarters right here in Northeastern Ohio while many manufacturers are running to Mexico and various foreign countries while many whine about our U.S.economy? I have to hang with Goodyear as I applaud their commitment to THIS country
I've stayed with the OEM's and never perceived any noise issues although I don't have any other brands to compare to.

The two tires look nearly the same just one has that stiffer side wall for operation with zero pressure. That sort of sucks that you opt'd for a non run flat and are still experiencing loud tire noise. Most forbear the run flat abilities for a better ride and much less noise. Honestly up to about 15K the same tire but ZPs are very quiet. I've just started noticing road noise from them after 16K with the top down.

Always inflate per the placard on the drivers door, and 30 is the correct value.

Sure noise is a complaint by many not all and definitely brand new tires will be significantly quieter. As the soft rubber wears to the harder vulcanized rubber underneath they will get noisy and rougher riding.

I believe Michelin has a number of plants in the U.S.

Even a brand new set of next generation Goodyear F1 EMTs are no doubt excellent and exceptional tires, areas that are an issue for a percentage of drivers is they drive them as daily drivers in all conditions. The GY EMTs are summer ultra high performance tires with a lower rating on wet surfaces and no snow. Where as there are other brands such as the Michelin A/S that does very well rating on wet roads and can handle light snow. When your on a trip it is nice to know your not going to have any worries about the weather and road conditions during that trip. Same if you drive yours daily to work and what not.

For me, I have not been disappointed with the performance in all conditions with the Michelin, I cannot say that with the GY EMTs at least up to 14K where I changed them.

BTW, Michelin is the OEM tire of the C6R and will be the OEM tire for the new ZR1.

Goodyears are excellent tires for other applications and I have been a true blue user of them for a very long time. I run them on my daughters cobalt. But for me they just did not meet the requirements of my C5 application.

If Goodyear would make the C6 OEM tire available in C5 sizes, which is the next generation EMT for Corvette, I would go with that. Because it solves a lot of the complaints from C5 owners with the first generation F1 EMT. Maybe Goodyear would like to explain themselves as to why they choose to abandon the C5 owners with a newer generation EMt tire which I'm certain the C5 owner complaints helped them design a better tire.
