Untrue. In fact, when I purchased, I looked for 02 or 03. Both have all the C5's worthwhile running changes in place, don't burn oil like a number of 01s and are well sorted out. In fact, in mid-model year 03, the EPA forced a running change that put the fuel filter inside the fuel tank and included a down rated fuel injection system, both changes to reduce evaporative emissions.
In fact, as I looked at various consumer reviews, it was the '02 that had fewer problems than prior models. And even then, the prior models had very few problems.

We have a 99 and an 02. The biggest issue we have had was the Oil Pressure Sensor on the 99. Had it changed out like 3-4 times... The 02 I have had since last May and so far no issues.... Runs like a dream....
I bought my '02 vert in September of 2006. I drive it every day. It now has 69K miles and the only problem I have had is with the antenna. My previous DD was an '88 coupe. It had 166K on it when I sold it - still running strong.
I have owned Toyotas, Nissans and various American made cars but I would say my vettes have been at least as dependable as any including the Toyotas.
I've heard that 2002 Corvettes are pretty problematic? Are these rumors or a fact? Appreciate it, if ya guys help me out.
It's a common problem one faces when they purchase ( or are looking to purchase ) one of the best cars on the planet. Haters are out there. Yeah.. These cars are just horrible. We need to continue to keep how well they really run and how trouble free they really are to ourselves!
The biggest problem I have with my '00 coupe is finding enough ( more ) time to drive it... and I get to drive it daily, year round!
If you find a well taken care of '02, I doubt you will find it to be any more problematic then any other year.

I don't have an '02 - but what I've heard is quite the opposite. I think the '02 may be the best of all the C5's. If I was going to purchase another one - I would seriously consider an '02 with low mileage as my first choice.
