I'm going to pull this module tomorrow using the instructions above - should I disconnect the battery and/or pull the fuses first?
As a rule of thumb, if you are going to leave the hood open for more than a few hours, it's always a good idea to disconnect the battery. My hood liht goes out, automatically after a number of minutes, but everytime I bump it, it comes on again. While my EBCM was out getting fixed, I left the hood up and drove my other car.
Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. Mr. Moderator, I won't mind if you make the procedure or its link a sticky.
Put the module back in yesterday and (aside from the C4-like component access ) all went smoothly. Cleared the codes and all looks good. I'll also put in another good word for ABSFixer...
Pulled my module using these excellent instructions as well, although I ended up removing the upper radiator hose as well. I happen to have freakishly large hands, and there was no way I was getting my torx driver into that tight area without doing this. Shipped the module off to Brandon on Wednesday. Hope his shop isn't under water! Will USPS deliver to a lake?
It can get to be confusing, but from what I understand, the EBCM is sometimes referred to as the EBTCM (Electronic Brake Traction Control Module) which bolted to the BPMV (Brake pressure modulating valve.)

Dave, great write up. This write up will save folks thousands of dollar.
I had my EBCM go out a couple of years ago and a similar write up by forum member Bill Curlee turned me on to doing it myself. I took the money Bill saved me and bought now S/D rotors and Hawk Ceramic pads.
You know you have to spend what you save doing your own work on more Mods!
Without forums, we'd all be a bit poorer. In fact, I'll bet some people could not afford to have a C5 without using the DIY stuff that can be found in this and other forums. I just wish this were in existence during my earlier C3-ownership days!
