Anyone buy one of the C5 Hood Pad Decals from Ebay or anywhere else? I was wondering how the installation is and how well it holds up under the hood. Thanks

Bought mine from RPI Designs, forum supporting vendor, about 1 1/2 years ago. Prep is the key to having a good bond to the hood pad. I removed the hood pad and sprayed it with 3 coats of flat black high temp paint. (some folks use paint made for painting a gas or charcoal grill). after it dried I applied the decal and used a hair dryer on high to bond the decal with the hood pad. As I heated the decal with the hair dryer I used a clean rag to apply slight pressure to the decal. This insures good contact with the adhesive on the decal and the hood pad. 1 1/2 years later and still looks like the day I put it on.

Bought mine off of Ebay about a year and a half ago and still holding up great. I did have a couple little edges of the fleur de lis start to curl up about a month after I installed it, but just used some adhesive spray and a toothpick and has been good ever since. Others have had mixed luck with them....think a lot of it has to do with the prep (I bought a brand new hood liner when I did mine) and paying close attention to the installation instructions.
Glad to see this worked for some--mine didn't --did the prep --waited until the weather warmed-did not paint the surface first and had peeling more than a toothpick would help. BUT!! glad it didn't work out I am in the middle of painting it myself.

Hey Linda, good for you. Let us see some pics of this work in process.
I tried this mod and it was a complete failure. I removed the pad and painted it with 2 coats of paint and let it dry. Applied the sticker to the pad with a hair dryer as instructed. All looked good. Re-placed the pad on the hood. Drove the car ~ 30 min. Parked, popped the hood and the stickher was hanging by one flag. Said a few choice cuss words and removed it. At least my liner looks brand new.

I didn't clean mine so to speak since it was in fairly good shape. I did spend maybe 10 min or so blowing the dust off with my compressor. If it's stained / oily you may want to try some spray stain sealer from one of the home improvement centers or your local hardware and then paint it black. or you could just get a new pad. I don't think they are that expensive.
I purchased mine off of ebay about 2 years ago and it still looks great. After i painted the liner with spray paint i noticed it had "paint dust" all over it. So I wiped it down and installed the sticker. I think it help to have the old lady give me a hand and I took my time. If i didnt wipe the dust off im sure the sticker would have fallen off after the first hot summer.
I bought mine off the auction site and also bought a can of 3M adhesive spray. I sprayed 2-3 coats of the adhesive on the back of the decal let it start to tacky up then put the decal on the hood liner. Then also used the hair dryer and heated it up until you could see the grain of the hoodliner in the decal. Just be careful with the heat because it will make the top layer of the decal seperate.
This thread was brought back from grave. What I did was take my hood liner to a local art shop and let them put a nice coat of black on the entire liner, then airbrush the C5 logo. It came out great and it only cost me $25 and it still looks good today.
