Don't know if your paranoid or not, and can't visualize your surroundings since you didn't fill in your profile. If you live in a tough urban area, caution is common sense, not paranoia. Your comfort level is easily remedied by seat time, so drive it early on weekends when traffic is light -- and enjoy. And, don't forget to wave!
Also, gotta pull your chain: You wrote about your "convertable," a word usually associated with sofas -- and mis-used in classified ads so often (including our forum) it's become common. For cars with tops that fold down, its "...ible."
I thought it was ROADSTER...(I LOATHE that word BTW!!)
Man, you really need to drive it!! I ordered mine new in 2000 and bought it as aa fair weather car. I don't take it out when the road is wet, but I put about 4000 miles on it each year. That gives me plenty of time to keep it squeeky clean and in mint condition.
Touch up those nicks, but for God's sake DRIVE IT. Mark
Drive it!!!!! Its not gonna hold any value anyway. Why did you buy it in the first place...?
Its just a car, they get rock chips, door dings, scratches...have fun with it. The weather is getting nice.
You can keep it in my garage. I'll keep it running for ya. You may be err.. surprised.. at the mileage when you look at it next time though. No questions asked.
Drive it. These cars do look good from almost any angle.. but they look even better when viewed from the drivers seat cruising along.
Mine is my DD and it does not seem to mind that I take it for a drive daily.
They were meant to be driven and driven hard. Letting them sit then taking them out is asking for seals to go out, water pumps to go out, etc.
You could always put it in a glass globe and display it in the center of your lawn. It will depreciate whether you drive it or not. Have fun.
I thought it was ROADSTER...(I LOATHE that word BTW!!)
I call mine a vert.
DRIVE THE DANG CAR MAN!!!!....when GM went to the drawing board for the C5 they designed it to be driven. Get out there and enjoy it. There are MANY of us who drive ours as a DD and they are still in excelent condition.
Here's what you do... Go out and TRY to break it. Give it all you got. These machines are NOT delicate. They're not glass slippers or fine china. They can take straight road, to-the-floor acceleration, as well as inclement weather. If you get caught behind a utility truck with dirt/stones on the back, you can throttle it and get around him with NO problems!
And please don't sell it. You haven't even gotten the real JOY out if owning it yet!
The answer is in your heart, not ours. I drive mine until I tire of them, then buy another - preferably from an owner like you who hasn't driven theirs very much. As has been stated, Corvette's are really bad investments compared to securities or real estate. Their value, IMHO, is the pleasure they bring their owners. I derive maximum pleasure from mine by driving it - maybe you do get the most out of yours by viewing it in pristine condition. I can't imagine that for me, but if it works for you I'd say DO IT.
Most of us like to drive them because of the fun that generates. Give it a try, Grasshopper. Release your inner beast and see what you think. Or buy a really expensive toy 'Vette to admire - it's less expensive.
I say keep it in the garage, when I get done beating the **** out of the one I have, I can buy your devalued low mileage mint vette for next to nothing and start all over again.
I had the same feeling when I first got mine. Then I realized, I bought it to enjoy it and thats what I'm doing. I've had a basketball hit me at 50mph, no damage, I had my neighbor back into me once, very slight scratch, chips on the front from rocks, that I've touched up and close to 4 gallons of bird**** in the last 3 weeks since I've been washing it but.......I'm enjoying it everyday just like life. Don't take it for granted as one day you'll wake up and realize that its gone and you really didn't get a chance to throughly enjoy it.
you can do more damage by not driving them. seals dry up,coolant leaks, mice, flat spots on tires, dead batteries, etc.also it bad just to start it up and not drive it.oil temp must get up hi to avoid un burnt fuel in oil. DRIVE AND ENJOY
