One external clue is no passenger door keyhole starting in 2000. Like you said he couldn't see the LS6 style intake if you didn't pop the hood. You probably have the switch to turn off the passenger air bag. For him to nail it as a 2001 sounds like luck or he overheard someone else say it was an 01
I have an 01 with the key hole on the driver door????
Ok...before you crush me...I re-read it..."passenger door" was plain as day. Damn Marines...
there are lots of ways to get an educated guess...
wagon wheels are a dead give away of pre 2000. also wasnt tr only offered later than, or in 2000 or something and another thing is the exhaust tips, if brown i think is before 2002 right?
so he had a 50 50 guess.
a true corvete buff could prolly tell by little things like this.
and i have also been told that in the vin the 8th digit or something tells the date but i dunno. he prolly just looked at that considering he prolly walks by it everyday
Nope, my 98 was torch red. I'm betting he did some research, maybe even asked someone. Or maybe he thinks only the 01 has those wheels.

He today told me something about the stripe on the Door, well not really a stripe, maybe a bold mold thingy, only came on corvette that were after 03, and the wheels put him post 2000. so 01 was a pretty good guess. Make sense?

My VIN # is covered to prevent freaks and others from observing from outside of vehicle..
The exhaust tips are the only way I know to tell the difference....if it has the chrome tip exhaust, then it's an 01 or newer...but him guessing 01 is pretty darn good...other than that He just has good knoweldege of vettes.

BSM's came on all C5's after 2000 (50-60% of those produced) and besides that you can install them on one that didn't come from the factory with them. He had a choice of 01, 02, or 04...lucky guess
