So this guy at work comes up to the TR 01 Coupe. He owns a C5 Z06, He comes up to me and says "is that your 01?". Is this guy Shi##in me? How on earth would he know it was an 01 just from looking at it? I certainly never popped the hood or anything for him, car is almost completely stock. Something I am missing? or did he take a shot in the dark and get lucky.
One external clue is no passenger door keyhole starting in 2000. Like you said he couldn't see the LS6 style intake if you didn't pop the hood. You probably have the switch to turn off the passenger air bag. For him to nail it as a 2001 sounds like luck or he overheard someone else say it was an 01
Yes... I think it does. It has the chrome looking ones that Have the C5 logo on them. Not the ugly ones.
Wagon wheels were pre-2000. Y2k wheel thin spokes came out in 2000. But the 2001 had chrome exhaust tips standard. I remember reading somewhere the thin spokes had different diameter spokes on the 2000 model? Don't quote me on this...
I don't know how he would know it was not a newer year though.
All he would have to do is have a quick look at your VIN. That would tell him what MY the vette was. Though, first of all, he would have to know what digit to look for.
While you were talking to him, why didn't you ask him how he knew the year. Next time you see him, ask him how he knew what year car you have. One thing is for sure, most c/5 Vettes still look like they just came off the assembly line.
That's an easy one. Look at your fender badge. What does it say for the HP #. '02 and up say 405HP. At least that's what I hear.
Sorry, "COUPE",......I read too fast!

From just a quick glance, as in just looking at your vette just from the outside and not looking at your VIN or interior, IMO, a really good guess...
there are lots of ways to get an educated guess...
wagon wheels are a dead give away of pre 2000. also wasnt tr only offered later than, or in 2000 or something and another thing is the exhaust tips, if brown i think is before 2002 right?
so he had a 50 50 guess.
a true corvete buff could prolly tell by little things like this.
and i have also been told that in the vin the 8th digit or something tells the date but i dunno. he prolly just looked at that considering he prolly walks by it everyday
