I'm actually surprised it has lasted this long.

If GM built an engine that was so unforgiving as to which synthetic oil was used, then we (and GM) would all be in big trouble.

With that said, track condiions will require different oil, atleast if you want to be able to run longer. Run a bone stock car MN6 for 30 minutes with 5w30 and observe the oil pressure and temps. Log the numbers

Then the next time on the track, put in a thicker oil and run 30 minutes and see what the pressure and temps are. Its a big difference and I saw this when my car was bone stock.

But For daily driving on a bone stock car, it really doesnt matter

Keep in mind that your owner's manual doesn't require an oil do be on this list, nor does it even mention anything about "registered" oils. I suspect, but don't know, that this list is an advertising revenue generator for GM. Your owner's manual requires an oil meeting GM Standard 4718M. Many synthetic oils on the market meet this standard, including several from AMSOIL.

For those considering AMSOIL, here are some real world used oil analysis samples on several LSx engines showing how it performs compared to Blackstone Labs universal averages and a few other synthetic oils:
Corvette C5 Used Oil Analysis Report – AMSOIL SAE Synthetic 10w30
Used Oil Analysis Comparison: German Castrol 0w30 vs AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30
Cadillac CTS-V Used Oil Analysis – Mobil 1 5w30 vs AMSOIL 0w30

For the original poster, the C5 LS1 motor should take about 6.5 quarts of a 5w30 meeting GM Standard 4718M. 10w30 is allowed as an alternative above 0F. 0w30 is not mentioned, but many, including myself (in my 06 CTS-V daily driver), use it as it will flow better when cold and help reduce wear while the oil is warming up.

As mentioned by Mark above, most guys that track the car use an oil with higher viscosity. I use a 10w40 in my C5 Z06 which sees exclusive track use these days.

Amsoil 10-30 with an Amsoil oil filter.

Just changed the oil in Mrs. Parches' C5 today. Put in Amsoil Signature Series and a PF46 filter. Been using Amsoil for more than 20 years with excellent results. I use Amsoil tranny and gear oil in both my C5's as well and I switched my Hummer over on the first oil change recently.
