Default Must have mods for a C5?

I'm going to be moving into a C5 from a C4, and am curious if there are any "must have" mods for these cars? I know there are tons of cheap, free worthwhile mods on the C4, but am unsure about the C5. Aside from the window valet, what else could you recommend?

Lots of must have mods for C5, not sure about cheap though. I guess the flip tie mod or cutting a bigger hole in your airbox could be considered cheap and beneficial to performance. Painted brake calipers is another inexpensive mod. The best bang for the buck mod for me was putting Z06 sway bars on my base suspension 02 coupe. $209 plus a few hours of my time.

The CLB fix and 1st-4th gear lockout bypass were my first two mods. Cold air intake and gears for automatics are very popular.

Column Lock Bypass and CAGS Eliminator are good mods to start with.

After that, it really depends on what you want to do with the car - appearance upgrades or performance upgrades. Lots of options out there.

This may be a dumb question, but what is a window valet? I am a new C5 owner, haven't even picked up the car yet, but am new to the vette scene.

Most common first mods are generally a cold air intake, exhaust, and a tune. The exhaust is mostly for sound not performance and is the most expensive of the 3, so if money is really tight you might want to wait on that (if you want it at all) or do the bypass mod which will cost less than $100 for a stock C5 and will beef up the sound of your car. $1K on the CAI and a good tune will be the best money you can spend in the performance dept hands down IMO. Make sure you do the CAI before the tune, but you can do a CAI without a tune, or a tune without the CAI .

Its a plug in module that goes into the OBD port. You can use the fob to rasie and lower the windows remotely. It does a few other cool things too. A number of the Forum vendors sell them.

I'd also say CLB and CAGS eliminator are the essential ones.

My favorite? Heated seats as they extend the top down season by months.

Take a look at this thread for a few more ideas:

Must have mods?

Intake
Exhaust
Skip-Shift Eliminator
Window Valet (if you have a vert, just nice to have otherwise)
CLB

Other than these things, it's all up to your preferrences/driving style for must haves.

Intake and exhaust but take your time and do some research and shop and compare for price. Also most important the exhaust sound from mild to wild that best suits your taste.

Depends on your checkbook.
CLB, cags, exhaust plate, exhaust, are must haves.

These are one of my favorites.

If I were to have just purchased a stock C5 and wanted performance upgrades exhaust and gears would be first in line for me. The 4.10s in my '99 are amazing.

Cosmetic wise I would go with tints, wheels, and drop it on the stock bolts.

Not to try and hijack a thread, but it may be of interest to the original poster as well. You have 4.10's on an MN6 car? If so, how did it effect the mileage (both highway and combined) and driveability. I have seriously been considering this as my next mod at the same time as a Vararam and short shifter. I am assumming the acceleration was DRASTICALLY different from the 3.42's, assumming you have an MN6 car. If this is not a proper location for this, I apologize and we can take it to PM.

I think this is the proper location. The OP wanted to hear about mods. I get 25-26 mpg on the highway but this is with heads, cam, headers, corsas w/cats...... The drivability is great other than the Spec 3 clutch which resembles a leg press in traffic. The acceleration is as long as you can get traction. A friend of mine (cmb396) just went to 3.90s in his '03Z and he is very happy with it.

Good luck to all.
