Should one have the misfortune to go agricultural or in the gravel at the track, how does the car get pulled out in the absence of a tow hook?
In the absence of a tow hook you might not get out. Or they bring in a tow truck to a point, hook on to any place they can, ( Emergency Response are not responsible for damage) and drag your car out.
They will look for the quickest and easiest place to put a big old HOOK onto your car and drag.
Then they might use the under wheel dollies to take you back to the paddock.
Emergency Response Personals job is to clear the track as quickly as they can, Not save your car. Get Tow Hooks
I got pulled out of the gravel trap at WGI, no tow hook, wrapped around the front axel and pulled. I also got towed at WGI once and the tow truck just locked around my front tires, lifted up the front of the car and away we went. Get the hooks.

Even more motivation to stay on the track. The rear hook looks out of harms way, but since my car sees daily driving use, I'm concerned that the front hook looks like a lethal weapon(for shins). Does it hinge, and how easy is it to remove.

Mine are not hinged, but Phoenix Performance does make Hinged tow hooks
As an alternative to the tow hook. Use a front tie-down strap routed to the frame both front and rear. Wrap the tiedown around a good soild piece of frame or whatever and secure up out of the way using zip-ties. If you need a tow, cut the zip-tie for access and attach the tow hook to the strap. When you aren't at the track, remove the straps and keep them in the trunk.
You could probably mount the straps in the same location shown above for the tow-hooks. Bring both ends of the strap out through the vents and zip-tie the end together on the outside.

Did you ever try getting under a car in a gravel trap? Fuhgedabowdit! Ain't gonna happen. And the side of the race track is no place to be crawling around under a car trying to snip wire ties. I doubt if the rescue crew would even allow you to do it at most tracks. They just grab and go. At most tracks, you either stay in your car or you are over the wall, that's it.
If you do many track days, invest in a pair of tow hooks. Best alternative, and they are not that expensive.

Good call. I have never been into the gravel or had to be towed out yet. It is much easier getting under the car in my garage than on the side of the track in gravel.
I have seen cars with some sort of strap that sticks out from the grill. No you dont have time to go under your car.
The Hook or strap must be accessible with in seconds for the emergency response ppl and No the driver is not to get out of his car in any case, unless the car is on fire.
I live in Ky so places like TSC (tractory supply ?) are all over with good deals. Not sure if you have tractors in Cali... I am sure you do but they probably have billet wheels, leather seats etc
I actually bought mine at AutoZone. They would work in this application but would need to be sticking out and readily accessible.
I think the tow straps are a cheap and easy way out but plan to install folding tow hooks on my car. Emergency response is not worried about working with you on a budget tow hook and may tear the car up trying to get it out of the way. Hopefully the towhooks are like a harness. If I have them hopefully I won't ever need them
After my car was towed back the paddock/garage area, I did use axle straps to attach it my trailer winch. Be sure the axle straps/or any strap, is rated for the intended load, but a tow hook is so much easier.
