Default Vararam - Good first mod?

How much performance/HP does this add? For a n00b, is this an easy mod? Anything else that needs or should be done before this? I've got a bone stock 97 with 66K on it.

not sure on hp gain but people have shaved .2 tenths of 1/4 times and it brings in cool outside air.

not too easy of a mod, but read cajundude's instructions and the install will be much easier.

after you are done, disconnect the battery for about 20 min, then connect it back up and drive the car for about 30 min to relearn the idle.

Aside from an exhaust plate, a set of rear fascia letters and a center console emblem, it was my first real mod. Definately a good place to start. It was worth the money.

It'll be harder to install that an open element like the Halltech, but I like the idea behind it. My car has one.

Putting mine in this weekend (time permitting). I've been told to expect anywhere from 1-4 hours, depending upon how it "lines" up with my specific vehicle. Be sure to use the Cajundude's install directions.

Do it as bringing in more air is a good thing and do the hood seal at the same time you will gain even more HP

I installed mine two days ego and it took 1.5 hrs-but I work a lot on my toys. Not complicated but follow the instruction.Make sure you can lift the car at least a foot since most of your work is under the nose.I used a jack under the middle of crossmember and lifted the whole front.
Good luck...

Once you install the Vararam, you're getting plenty of air in so the next mod you need is B & B Bullet exhaust or equivalent.

Did you use supplied instructions or Cajun's or a combo? I just read through Cajun's and am now intimidated by this mod even though I prob shouldn't be.

I think my husband said its an 18 HP gain? Could be wrong, I am going off of memory. It's a great first mod! It was the first mod we did to our Z! Good luck!

40 HP seems very lofty. I wonder if that claim is on an otherwise stock motor? I remember when I used to have Mustangs... you could find dyno numbers for just about every mod.. They're not so easy to find for 'Vette. Does anyone have Dyno numbers (not from the manufacturer) for this unit?
