Default Service ABS/ Tract Control

I am look for some help with an error message on my 98, "Service ABS/Traction Control". The yellow "disabled" warning lights are also lit on my instr panel. also, my windshield wipers no longer "park" when turned off. Does anyone know a fix for these problems? any help would be appreciated...L.G.

THIS IS BOB AT FICHTNER CHEVROLET,

I JUST TALKED TO OUR LEAD VETTE TECH AND HE HAD ONE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS EARLIER THIS WEEK. IT TURNED OUT THE BATTERY HAD LEAKED AND CORODED THE WIRING BELOW THE BATTERY TRAY. IT CAUSED AN ABS FAULT WHICH YOU HAVE AND THE WIPERS WERE ACTING UP AS WELL. THE MAIN JUNCTION WIRING IS BELOW THE BATTERY, SO THAT IS WHERE I WOULD START LOOKING. OHTERWISE YOU NEED SOMEONE WITH A TECH 2 OR SIMILAR UNIT TO PULL THE CODES FOR THE ABS AND SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE WIPER PROBLEM MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO THE ABS PROBLEM.

IF YOU NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE GIVE US A CALL AT 800-234-5284 AND I WILL SEE IF I CAN HELP YOU.

GOOD LUCK!

BOB

with Bob, that sounds ominous.

First thing to do is to take out the battery (disable the security feature on the radio first). Check around and make sure you don't have a battery leak. If you do we can point you at some threads that will help clean it up

Hopefully, thats not the problem. With a 98 you don't have active handling (faults with AH are different but more common) so it would be a TCS/ABS problem. First thing to do is to pull the codes from the DIC and post them up. That way we can start to work out where the problem lies. You're looking for a "C" code in the TCS section but post up any H codes as they may give a clue..

Default Problem solved

Before my earlier post I opened my hood and the EBCM described by other forum members was nowhere to be found. (that's why I assumed it was under the battery. However you (Black Z06) were right on with its location, behind the differential. After closer inspection I noticed that the 16-18 gage red wire (V+) had a swollen section just outside of the clamp on connector. The suspect section of wire was cut out and a new piece was installed and covered with heat shrink.....PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! no more error codes, no more yellow warning lights....Thanks for your help. Now if I can figure out the faulty "park" circuit on my wind shield wipers...thanks again...Larry G.
