I was heading home today and my engine warning light came on and said reduse power which the engine all but shut off. The service soon the ABS warning came on. I'm a new Vette owner. It was over 103 today. Could it be a vapor lock? I pulled over shut the engine off let it set for a few minute tried to restarted it and the the engine was really sluggish. I set it set a few more minutes hit the reset button and it fired right up. But my engine light stayed on. I checked the engine all seems fine. The air filter was alittle dirty. I'm going to get a new one tomorrow. Any Thoughts? Is thier a way to turn off the engine light?
First thing first. Access your codes via the DIC and see what you have. There are a number of things that could cause the warning lights that you describe. Post up the codes that you find and I'm sure that some of our experts can help you diagnose the cause.
I checked the codes and it showed miss comm between the PCM. No Signal. I reset the codes. Where is the PCM located and where can I check the connection to maybe spray contact cleaner to see if that helps.
I had a similar problem once, years ago and it never happened again.
The lost comm code just shows you had a power glitch. I assume it was an H code? You get the same codes if you pull the battery. If I were you I'd clear the codes and drive it a while and see how you go but I'd stay local for a few days in case it tries it again.
Chances are it was a one off and the car just went into limp home mode as programmed.
Here are the Codes I got
(BO-REA)U1096H U1064H U1016H C2110H
(LDCM) B2252 U1064
(TCS) C1278A
(PCM) P1518
Hopes this helps
The C1287 is an H not an A. I get that when I get an AH trip. I've tied it down to my steering wheel position sensor. Thats not the problem though.
You can disregard the U codes. they show the power glitch.
The one that caused the problem is the P1518. Again I guess its an H code?
The throttle actuator control and the PCM speak to each other over the data bus. If theres an interrupt, it sets the check engine light and drops the car into limp home mode.
After the event, if the diagnostic mode runs and gets a pass it clears the CEL. The H codes clears after 40 ignition cycles without further problems.
I'd reset the codes and run for a while to see if any return. Probably just a passing power gremlin but if it does it again you may need further diagnosis. FWIW the checks are quite extensive in the shop manual and check out the connections and modules between the TAC and PCM.
