I know the CLB is excluded on the A4 '01. My question is does the '01 steering column lock ever. I ask because mine has never ever locked. I thought once you remove the key all GM columns are supposed to lock. Mine doesn’t. TIA
Your car had the recall done on it and they removed the lockplate from the back of the steering wheel. Is there still a "buzz" sound when you remove the key?
You are correct, 01-04 automatics had the ECL removed. GM could not figure out how to fix it and since the transmission locks when in park they could afford to remove it from the auto's. Not so with the MN6, we who own those are plagued right through the entire generation.
Since yours was never installed at the factory it will never lock on you. Consider yourself lucky you choose the right year model and transmission model.
To make matters worst GM decided not to resolve the issue any further on their dime. The only option for others is the bypass module. As the fixes GM put in the SB were ineffective. Good engineering eh, for seven years these characters could not figure it out.
There is a sticky on this in the C5 Tech section.
Phase 3 of the recall repins the BCM and replaces the steering column plate. Still there are reports of the system failing and killing the vehicle on the spot.
