Default Headlight Assembly Removal C5

The headlight motor on the passenger side is in failure mode – the motor continues to run at shut off and makes a noise.

The motor on the driver side was replaced a year or so ago.

Has anyone done a headlight assembly removal on a C5 (2000)?

What are the basic steps?

I read a sticky, which is helpful but as far as I can tell it applies to earlier models.

Also, there is supposed to be a manual override for opening the headlights on the C5.

Where is it and how does it work?

1. Open the headlights. Remove the plastic shrouds that are held on by 3 phillips screws. then 3 allen (or torx, or hex, or whatever they're called) bolts hold the top painted piece in place. take that off too. next undo the 3 bolts that hold the actual headlight in place (#10, i believe). basically keep removing all the bolts, lol. Once you see it, it's pretty self explanatory. You have to take apart the actual assembly (which is what I was describing how to do just now) in order to get to the bolts that hold the entire assembly in place. There are like 3-4 big bolts that hold the assembly to the car's frame.

2. Pop the hood. You'll see one rubber cap towards the inside of each headlight. Pull off the caps. There will be a small wheel under. Turn them to raise/lower the headlight. If I remember correctly, counterclockwise raises the lights. You have to turn them quite a bit before they actually start raising, but if you encounter resistance, don't force it.

If you have the machine gun noise it means your nylon gar is stripped. You don't need to pull the headlight to fix that. Look at Leaftye's sticky at the top of C5 General and run down to the section on headlight motors. It'll run through the procedure for changing the gear. A motor change is easy although it'll cost way more $$$

The manual override is behind the rubber cap on the end of the motor. Pull it off and you can rotate the **** to open the lights.
