If you install a bypass module, after ensuring the lock pin has retracted (procedure involved) the power connector to it is removed. The pin and actuator can no longer move because there is no power to the unit.

Answer to the if I install ... will it fix..., most likely yes, read the explanation above.

Only if you have an aftermarket CLB, COH etc. If you have the gm k-harness the actuator is still in play. That is what he is hearing. And if the steering wheel plate was removed it wont lock when ignition is shut off. For all the information any of you guys need you need to read the sticky...............

My local Chevy dealer is still honoring the latest recall. The service manager was surprised when I told him about the reported Feb 28 expiration date...he said that safety recalls can be superceded but don't "expire"
***************************

Jack, the "official" letter from GM (dated Feb 2006) states in no uncertain terms that as of Feb. 29, 2008 GM will no longer honor warranty repair/replacement work to the column lock system found on C5's.
If your deraler is willing to fix/replace the column lock system they are to be congradulated. I couldn't find one here in Hawaii that would do a fix after that date. I spoke to the GM division rep here as well as GM's Corp. Customer Service Dept. They swear their "fix" works!!!!! Ha! We know better.
After much go around with the Corp. rep he gave me a refference number and told me IF the system failed to take it back to the dealer that did the original warranty "fix" with the refference number he gave me. That would authorize them to fix/replace it. Here's the problem; the warranty work was done in Texas where the car was originaly sold. The car is now with me here in Hawaii. His comment; Sorry! Can't help you.
To those that don't have a dealer like Jake's who is willing to step up to the plate, get a CLB.
