My left headlight motor has failed on my '98 C5 coupe. Am I in for a $500 dollar repair (part and labor) or is this something I might be able to fix myself? Anyone had any luck finding a used part? The headlight is still working, which is good. I have put a lot of repairs into this car this year and $500 more just feels like a slap in the face.

You can fix yourself. Headlight comes out really easy by unbolting from underneath.
The actual motors themselves rarely fail. If nothing else, they are built pretty tough.
Good chance you've stripped the plastic gears of I've seen a few where the worm gear on the motor somehow got out of whack and cracked the gear housing down at the bottom of the motor.
Of course the dealer is going to tell you the 'worst' as they don't sell just a replacement gear...
I won't say this fix is a 1 out of 10 in simplicity, but it really isn't bad at all to DIY this fix yourself.
