Anyone know if GMPP extended warranty covers batteries? Mine is 5 years old this Nov. and it went dead this am at a car show, playing music for an hour or so. Thanks
If yours is the OEM battery, it is an AGM and should last 7 years or more if charged (either by driving or with a battery tender) regularly. Charge that guy up (10 amps) and it may very well be fine. If by chance it doesn't recover, I recommend the new AC Delco Professional batteries. Their 7-year battery has a 50-month free-replacement warranty - best in the business. I bought one, recently and fully expect to not have to worry about it for another 7 years. They are $99 at Summit Racing.
Buy an Optima, and add an extra battery for carshows......
Actually, if you regularly drain your battery down with an aftermarket stereo system or if you like blasting the stock system, a deep-cycle battery such as the Yello Top is a better choice.
Deep cycling a Red Top is a sure way to kill it in a short period of time.
However, if your battery is in fact, done (check it, first) and car shows are infrequent, get the $99 AC Delco Professional. It's a much better bang for the buck than an AGM by Sears or Optima, IMO.

That is why I have a red top to start the car, and the yellow top for my stereo needs!!!!!!!!! Optima FTW!!!!
I lucked out with the leaking ones but anyway, I called the dealer who put this battery in my car 11/03 (the original lasted two years) for no cost and he said this battery was good for 12mo/12k miles, so I took it to my vette mechanic and he put in a Delco with 6 year warranty and that's the end of that! Thanks for your input guys. OH, I had him lift up the car to check my rear, which the left leaked two years ago, and guess what? The right side is leaking now so it's at the stealership now getting repaired under warranty; they have a good vette mechanic there who actually worked on my vettes in the early 70's and he's still around. I think I covered several topics here, so goodbye and thanks
Just so you know - the "leaky" batteries were installed during years 97-00 ONLY. Since the oldest one is now more than 8 years old, this is essentially a dead subject.
Almost all AC Delco batteries installed from 2001 - 2003 were AGM (leakproof) batteries. Partially because AGM batteries do not like to discharge often from lack of use, AC Delco went back to non-AGMs, but with significantly strengthened cases - old problem, solved.
