I have used back to black on several vehicles, last more than a day...but not more than about a week. you are correct it doesnt last long. I would look into painting it or the carbon fiber approach a member offered.
These suggestions work well but you can also paint it,I have seen body color and even chrome.
That's what I did to mine. Painted it to match the body. Gives it a nice look and easy to maintain.
Here is a picture from a show last year.
And here is a picture from the side showing the hood closed (it was actually a picture soon after installing my new CCW's).
A few other members have done the same thing so they probably have some better pictures of painting it. I just wanted to give you guys another alternative (I had trouble keeping mine clean in the South Georgia sun until I painted it).
Actually, you'd be amazed at what black paste shoe polish will do for dull, discolored, or stained, textured black plastic surfaces. Hand buffs out great also.
What an awesome tip!!! Thanks to the Navy I have plenty of black polish laying around so I decided to give this a try. You can see the small spot that I did in the picture. The camera isn't the greatest but it looks brand new!!!
I use Griot's rubber and vinyl treatment. My car sits in the garage much of the time, so I don't know how it would work on really faded plastic, but it sure keeps mine looking good. It doesn't have any silicone in it.
Took the cowl off, took to a local paint shop...they matched the color codes to the metallic pewter and now it's matched to the body color...looks great...they really should come from the factory like that.....
